My mother is the type of person that would adjust her accent to match yours, not mockingly, but for a deeper level of understanding and compassion.

My mother is the type of person that would stay with a man

without a job
who verbally abuses her
who uses her
who cannot be a father to his own son, let alone hers
who wanders the streets day in and day out begging for money for alcohol
who steals from her
who lies to her face
who brings home shopping carts every other day for god knows what reason
who expects her to wait on him hand and foot
who makes her late for work by hiding keys or taking credit cards
who fake burps loudly at all times of the night
who cannot sleep on his back because he might throw up and drown himself in his own vomit

All because she loves him

Maybe I can never understand.
