Not Really Sure How Being A Marine Gf Works...

My boyfriend is currently at SOI training in Camp Pendleton and I am in Arizona anxiously waiting to find out where he is based so we can start our life together. Basic training was really rough..not being able to speak with him but letters really helped. I am just unsure how it all works regarding his living situation.. Meaning like do we have to be married in order for him to live off base? Can he come stay with me every night if thats the case? I am terrified to marry a marine but at the same time he is totally worth it. Deployments are extremely scary and I just hope that when it does eventually happen I dont have a mental breakdown! ugh.. any advice would help.

    thank you so much!! that information really helped me out. It is just hard because my bf won't take the time to ask questions..but I am sure he is also afraid. He just goes with the flow with everything!

    I think he has to be at least a corporal or higher to live off base if he isnt married. I think he can still technically live off base but wouldnt get BAH (Basic Housing Allowance) so the Marines would not pay for his houseing. They would only provide him with a barrack and he would have to pay his own rent if he had an apartment off base with you. So yeh I think he could sleep at your place most nights if you lived close enough where he could drive to work everyday.



    I moved out to LA so I could be closer to my Marine who is based at Camp Pendleton. It was definitely worth it. When he is not deployed I can see him every weekend. I was lucky enough to get a job and move out here and support myself. My boyfriend still lives on base, but when he gets back from this deployment he is looking to get an apartment off base, so who knows maybe I'll move in with him when he's back and find a job near base. He is a Corporal and in his particular situation is able to get BAH when he is back. At what rank you can get BAH is different on each base and who your higher ups are.



    Lots of military couples do get married quickly and young so they can live together and get the benefits of being military spouses. If you're thinking about marriage tho id recommend making sure you are completely ready to get married. It is the right choice for some younger couples and the wrong choice for others. You two can decide what is best for you and your situation.



    Deployments are rough, but we all get through them. This website really helps me whenever my boyfriend is deployed. Just reading others stories who are going through the same thing helps. Message me if you ever want to talk or have questions.

    I totally agree basic's the worst. As for being married i do believe he has to be married to live of base with you. & as for staying with you if your not married im not sure how that works. In my opinion if you want to get married it would probably be best before you moved together. I hope that helps a little.
