He was probably referring to letters. I never got a phone call from my man. Some girls are lucky to get one. Some girls are lucky to even get 2-3 phone calls. It just all depends.

Camp Pendleton doesn't have a boot camp... it's MCRD San Diego (: It's about a 45-minute drive from Pendleton. They will do SOME training at Camp Pendleton, but most of their time will be spent at MCRD San Diego, it's legitly right across the street from the air port. While my Fiance and I were sitting in the terminal of the airport waiting for our plane he says, "How can so much hell be going on over there (MCRD), and society just keep functioning?". He basically meant how does society not know the sh*t that all the recruits are putting up with only a few hundreds yards from where we were sitting.

If you get to go to his graduation, definitely go. San Diego is an amazing city, I was born and raised here, and actually met my Fiance out here while he was at Camp Pendleton for his MOS school!

Hello :) My boyfriend went to bootcamp in Parris Island, South Carolina, but I'm sure both bootcamps work the same way when it comes to communication. That phone call you received will be the only phone call you hear until he finishes The Crucible. At least that's when I first heard his voice. You'll be getting letters from now on. He'll be VERY busy so don't worry if you don't get a letter each week. If you need any advice, I'd be happy to give some :) My boyfriend will have been in a year coming this September, so I think I may be a able to help a little. Good luck with everything. I'm sure you'll be fine :)

Thanks :) Whats the crusible? So I will be able to talk on the phone ? Should I send him a phone card or anything like that? What's good to send him as well other than letters that wont get him in trouble? Thanks :)

You're welcome! :) The Crucible is the last thing they do before the receive their EGA ( Eagle, Globe and Anchor ) It's basically the most challenging part of bootcamp. It's the only thing standing infront of them before they graduate. But my boyfriend said it's really just mind over matter. About the whole phone thing, only after The Crucible will he be able to make the phone calls. I would assume you would get one lol. But for majority of the time he is away at bootcamp, it's strictly letters. ONLY letters. Don't try calling him, because that'll just get him in trouble and cause all sorts of problems. Phone card? Not exactly sure what that is, I'm sure I've heard of it though. When it comes to sending him things other than letters, it's best to have him ask for something rather than taking it upon yourself to send him something. While you're doing it out of the kindness of your heart, and there's nothing wrong with that, this is bootcamp. It's a whole different world in there, from what I was being told. If he wants you to send him something, he'll ask. Or if you want, you can ask in your letter if there is anything he needs, just so he's not caught off guard if you do send him something that he isn't expecting because the DI's will see it before he does and usually give him hell. Also, even if you don't have the address for his barracks, start writing your letters now. I don't know how you're handling this right now ( I was a WRECK), it'll feel really good when you start to write him. It can be more than one letter, too. Recruits look forward to letters. It makes their day. Note: When you do write letters, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS keep them positive. Even if something bad happens back at home, severe or not, it's important to keep the letters positive this way he can concentrate on doing what he needs to do and not be distracted or worried about what's going on back at home. You'll be able to tell him after bootcamp though:) And just remind him how proud of him you are.I did that with my boyfriend and it helped him. Sorry this is so long but I know what you're going through. It's tough at first but you'll get through it! I hope this helps. Look forward to hearing from you

Anytime, I'm glad if I can help in any way:). I felt lonely too, although I did have people around me but it's something one has to personally go through. That's good you're at college though, believe it or not. You have no choice but to keep yourself busy :) Bootcamp will go by super fast for you. The lack of communication does suck, but that first letter is like a breath of fresh air. And it's good because you can go back and keep reading it and it'll put a smile on your face each time. The Crucible starts more towards the end. I'm going to say the second to last week of bootcamp? Don't quote me on that though lol. They do SOOOO many things in bootcamp. He'll be able to tell you better than I would :) After bootcamp, the communication gets better. He'll go to MCT and won't have his phone on him for about three weeks because he'll be out in the field and they can't have their phones on them, except on Sundays but even that'll only be for a few minutes. But other than that, the communication gets better. It's just three SHORT months without any communication. If you can get through this, you can get through anything :)

My boyfriend just left Monday. We said out goodbyes on Sunday. So I know just how you feel . It is the worst feeling the the world the moment that you have to say bye. I still have not got the phone call that says he made it to San Diego and that I will hear from him in letters. But he did post on facebook yesterday that he had a little time to while he waited for the bus to take him to the boot. When does your boy graduate? I have not heard when Mine does. Im pretty lonley to so if you ever need someone to talk to im here since we are going though the same thing at the same time lol.

It really was one of the worst feelings. The phone call that he made it there, he'll only be able to call one person. My boyfriend told us he'd call his dad, which he did. So I didn't hear his voice until a few days before we went to leave for Parris Island. If you're getting the call that's pretty good. It won't be a conversation though, when you get it. It's basically him saying he got there safe, he'll let you know when you'll get a letter from him and to not call..something along those lines. If you guys need any more advice or questions, don't hesitate to ask. I had a lot of anxiety when James left. Don't be shy :) You ladies will be fine :)

Lucky you. His dad got the call. Probably better that his dad did because I would've probably kept trying to have a conversation with him not realizing what the call was going to entail lol. Wow, November 10th really doesn't seem that far away. It's already almost Septemeber!!!! The first letter will be here before you know it. I think they're still in receiving now, so it'lll be a little bit, but you'll get one :)

Yeah I told him to just call home but I guess he wanted to call me instead. Yeah I keep telling myself it's not that far away lol. Yeah I heard the first card is just like a post card, then I heard that the recruits send like a little box or package so I'm not sure what I'll be receiving. No matter what it is I hope I get it soon lol

Well my first letter wasn't like a postcard. It was an actual letter. It was almost like a love letter, actually lol. I think the package or small box you're thinking of is when they send their civilian clothes home. We were told the same thing but since there are HUNDRED of recruits, they just had them take their civi's home with them after they graduated. But that was Parris Island, so his bootcamp may be different, I don't know.
