Dear John?

I notice a lot of girls refer to their military relationship or this life style as a Dear John life. Everytime I see this I can't help but think they don't really truly understand what a Dear John is. It's not something you should refer yourself to, it's not a title to proudly boast. A Dear John is a break up letter. And to be honest that really makes me angry, because the girls who do this put the military girlfriends in a category that many of us struggle to stay out of. So please if you love your soldier and want to spend the rest of your life with him DO NOT REFER TO DEAR JOHN. I must take three seconds to roll my eyes at these girls. I'm sorry if his offends any of you, but honestly think about what you're saying!

I hace to agree with JestersAngel on this one. The meaning behind "Dear John" is to leave your soldier when he needs you most by writing a letter that ine nicest way says im to weak to make it thru with you. So to call your relationship Dear john life its pretty much saying your going to leave him when you need him most. Sorry if I offended anybody but I think its a bad name for a relationship as well when it has such bad meaning behind it..

No.. i get it that the term dear john means a breakup letter. But i think most women can relate to the actual movie for thw most part

I think it is okay to say that the stories are similar (other than the breakup) but I do agree with you that they shouldnt use the term if they dont know what it means.

Don't get me wrong, saying the stories are similar, but a Dear John is litterally a break up letter. That's why the movie and book are called Dear John. I don't know, maybe it's just me that finds it taboo.
