Why Bf Looking At Wedding Rings

My bf just come home from the deployment and being station over sea for 2 years .He has 20 days left.It been going alright just having a hard time that he be leaving again to go back for 7 months .All he been talking about since he been gone is how he cant wait to get married to me .2 days ago me my bf and my bf father and his girlfriend went out to eat .My bf father girlfriend ask us why we don't get married and move in on base.My bf said its because I will have to find a good job and you have to have a collage degree and he don't want to take me away from my family.I was upset all night about that but I did not say anything .The next day we went to the jewly store and look at wedding rings .He said it was for the future and the sale guy said she need a engagement ring while you guys are planning he said we wont be getting married until after our career move in together and have a car.Why look at wedding rings this far ahead .
