War, What Is It Good For?

I was watching "Born on the 4th of July" today. This movie is based on the true story of Ron Kovic, played by Tom Cruise. Paralyzed in the Vietnam war, he becomes an anti-war and pro-human rights political activist after feeling betrayed by the country he fought for.

During the movie one of the characters alluded to the fact that "this war is being fought for a few rich white men". This is true about most wars this country fights. Terrorists based in Afghanistan attack us, and we attack Iraq. A country that had absolutely nothing to do with the attack on our country. Why? Because of the oil. Because of a few rich white men.

Why has this country been in Afghanistan longer than it fought the Vietnam, Korean and WW1 and WW2 combined? Pure greed. The longer this pointless war goes on, the more profit to be reaped. Who profits from war? The corporations run, by in large, by rich white men.

Our country has been in a state of war for about 210 years. A crazy fact that most people are not aware of. The American war machine is profitable and employs tens of thousands. It enriches a few white men at the top. It leaves countless millions dead, maimed, homeless, dysfunctional, and lives shattered.

How is war waged today? By lies, lies, and more lies. They are masters at packaging war in a way that most people believe is righteous. Look at the Iraq war, they had to find a reason to attack. How could it be justified?

It was decided, the average citizen had to be threatened. They developed the threat level to scare the **** out of Americans on a daily basis. Remember condition orange, it seemed everyday Bush and his cronies would raise the threat level.  Ratchet up the tension, it was the only way to get Americans to accept his lies about invading Iraq.

Condoleeza Rice said there would be a mushroom cloud from the nuclear bombs Sadaam Hussein had in his arsenal, if America did not act. Their script was perfect.  When their lies were discovered, weapons of mass destruction was forgotten, and the new and improved operation "Iraqi Freedom" was incorporated into the script.

They package every war the same, wrapped in Red, White and Blue. Be patriotic, fight terrorism. Freedom is not Free...etc...All the while, then President Bush was cutting funds for our veterans. Bush and Cheney, both Chicken Hawks in Chief.  Both draft dodgers, leading the fight for big money for their friends at Halliburton and others.

Now that we are out of Iraq, and, plans to pull out of Afghanistan, they are beating the drums to attack Iran. Do not believe everything you hear or read from our media.

President of the United States Dwight D. Eisenhower in his farewell speech—the last speech he gave while he was the President, said,
"we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex."

Being patriotic is more than going where they tell you to go, killing who they tell you to kill. Knowledge is power, question authority, saving our brothers, sons, husbands, our men, from dying a pointless death, and denying a few white men their greed is what I call  patriotic.
