Man, I loled. :)Well honestly, as a Filipino, we're not really into the stuff claiming being some "spanish" people or wannabes like what most of you were blabbering.

Yeah some of us don't look like asians at all or even a good looking people because we are brands of mixed race and culture from indo, malay, chinese, indians, and sh*t - it's all *****d up which bothers me as a Filipino but thanks to Espanya we're now in one piece.Another thing I want to clear is that we don't even take any plastic surgeries (it's very rare here probably because no one would ever think about it I tell you) but some filipinas were really spending alot of money just to bleach their skins, sort of, which you might heard before just to look like chinks but definitely not because we want to look like white people or spanish.

If you ask me, which one Filipinos would prefer, is it being an asian as*h*le or spanish... I say being an asian, of course. There's no reason to still cling with spanish culture because we no longer hold any colonial matters with them. The only thing that connects the Philippines and Spain is the language. YEah We have just a few derived words from the spanish like "libre" but most of our words were came from Chinese, Japanese, and primarily in Indonesian.

Last thing, if you're going to analyze tagalog or Filipino language, you will notice that there's a bunch of used english words. The reason for this is that, it's all about laziness - can't even make a new word so we borrow. In fact, many foreigners were so annoyed with our language probably because you can't speak tagalog entirely without using any english word!

PS>My middle name is Villanueva and my last name is Javier. That's a great one shot. Peace everyone.

I agree, filipinos are f.ucking ugly and are always bragging about their ¨Spanish¨ ancestry, they think they are Latin Americans, are very racist towards other groups of people and always brag about their country (which is a f.ucking shithole if you ask me) as if it were some developed, industrialized nation, here in Canada nobody likes them, they like to kiss white ***, but the whites treat them like mutts, they are very disliked, only other filipinos like them

LOL... Do you think they did that to look like European? Gosh! ..many Filipinos with fake nose? like how many? does it reach 2% of total Phil population? how about Europeans tanning their skin? did they do that to look like Filipinos?

"And what about their nose? They have nose more like South East Asians" ..

Again, this is ignorance! Phil is in South East Asia! at least, our nose is not pinocchio-inspired... or witchy? LOL...

If you're tired of hearing it then don't listen, move the f on and go about your business. You're complaining about things that shouldn't matter when there are plenty of other more important things happening in the world. Go read a book or something. Get yourself educated.

Si, sabias! But you think that because most of us Filipinos are good-natured and passive you can just generalize and dump on us with your callous insults, apparent superiority and idiotic rationalization? Just because some Filipinos have low self-esteem and try to adapt to situations by seeming to be "better" in this cruel world and proudly say somewhat silly stuff about their ancestry you can just waylay their psyche with your stupid ignorance? You have no friggin' idea what the Philippines is about because some stuff are not in the history books, or emended or blocked from the world consciousness because of one reason or another.
But here are the facts: the Spaniards who was supposedly the "guardian" of the Philippines stunted its growth, debased and debauched it's people and scooped up all they can before the Americans kicked them in the a$$ and out of the islands! Tu sabes? They also were extremely, insultingly, cruel to Filipinos calling them "monos Indios" (Indian monkeys), treated most of them like slaves and MASSACRED them by the THOUSANDS (every year for 380 years) when they "rebelled" or complained. Es muy bueno to you Hispanicos, no? The only consolation in all this is that Jose Rizal inspired them and Gen. Aguinaldo and other Filipino nationalist forces PUMMELED their a$$ in the battlefield and that's when the Spanish authorities had the temerity to complain to other European powers about Filipino "atrocities!" Que estupidos, no?
And yet, when World War rolled around, we fought like the devil along with American forces until the numerically superior Japs pushed us to Bataan and even then it took them 4 MONTHS to do that! While our other "stronger", "better" neighbors in Southeast Asia surrendered a FEW days after seeing the Jap forces with their glinting bayonet -- and they HAD strong British, French and Dutch allies!
Tu es Hispanico o Latino, no? And I'm sure you're proud of that. Yet just remember the story of Almirante Fernao de Magalhaes (Ferdinand Magellan) who "found out" too late that Filipinos can be proud warriors too only after gasping for breath on a bloody beach in Mactan Island with an arrow embedded in his knee and a spear in his chest!
    Hasta luego, mi pana!

"I've seen so many Filipinos with fake nose..."

This is evidence, somehow, that Filipinos are hispanic-wannabees? If she was "really nice in her wording of things", she would have at least thought out that her experiences are different, and to say that Filipinos are hispanic wannabees because of it does not do us justice.

Sure, maybe you are right, many Filipinos have their ethnic backgrounds wrong; maybe some are just bragging and lying. I too am a filipino, and I was told by my parents that the reason I was light skinned was because of Hispanic descent. I believed it. Looking at the statistics, yeah, it does seem unlikely that I am, but to say that I am a hypocrite doesn't even make sense. I didn't know. My parents might not have even known, so have a little bit of empathy, if you are even capable of it.

"Filipinos sit there, and blab on about 'Hispanic this....Hispanic that', yet Filipinos don't even speak Spanish. The REAL Spanish-speaking Filipinos are the Muslims and Christians down in Mindanao, they speak a Spanish-creole called Chavacano. I don't hear them calling themselves 'Hispanic'"

Hey, I am Filipino! Prove, that I am a wannabe-hispanic! Just give me an ounce of proof that I am actually sitting around, bragging about my "hispanic" background

"Filipinos seriously need to stop associating themselves amongst ethnicites that they don't belong to. Dear all Malays: If a Filipinos ever comes across you and says that they are Malays, SLAP THEM IN THE FACE."

Slapping people in the face is immature and dumb! NO Malay, even the mentally challenged ones, have your lack of sensibility, so your advice will never be heeded. If somebody is ignorant, educate them. If they are telling erroneous things, clarify, never use nonsensical physical violence.

Filipinos are wannabe Hispanics??? I've yet to meet one. Almost all the Filipinos I know and met who actually have Spanish ancestry hate it. ^JuanJohn ^ is a perfect example. I've also noticed that a lot Filipinos want to be more American. They try so hard to speak english to the point where they included it when speaking Tagalog. After having Spanish as one of the languages for over 300 years, they had no problem ditching it for English when the Americans ruled for only 50 years. Furthermore, a lot of Filipinos are hopping on the bandwagon of some study (which consisted of only a handful of subjects) that says there are only 3% of Filipinos with Spanish ancestry. This study was conducted by...guess what...an American. So now they ditch what their grandparents tell them for a study made by some American.

When I was a little kid, I've always wondered why my Laos and Chinese friends looked similar to each other but not me. Our countries are so close together yet I didn't really blend in with them visually. I was devastated when my grandfather told me he was half Spanish and my mom's father was a quarter Spanish. As I got older, I've grown to accept and be proud of it. However, I still say I'm Filipino...that's it. I can't be bothered to mention my ancestry unless I'm asked about it.

The only issue I really faced was women. I didn't look Asian enough for Asian girls and I didn't look Spanish enough for Spanish girls, Latinas in particular LOL.

I got no problem admitting that the Philippines has a mix of influences ranging all the way from Chinese, Indian, Arabic, Malay and Spanish influence. But when FIlipinos call themsleves ethnicities they aren't...that's just bad.

Tienes razon! Filipinos suffer an identity crisis, they seriously do not know what to call themselves other than "Filipino". Hispanic, Pacific Islander and Malay are the three ethnicities that Filipinos always want to call themselves (which they're not). Filipinos brag about ethnicities that they don't belong to. I seriously wish people like Manny Pacquiao would address this...anyways Filipinos are completely brainwashed puppets noy-noys who follow anything their celebrities and politicians say.

    FILIPINOS ARE WANNABE-HISPANICS

Filipinos sit there, and blab on about "Hispanic this....Hispanic that", yet Filipinos don't even speak Spanish. The REAL Spanish-speaking Filipinos are the Muslims and Christians down in Mindanao, they speak a Spanish-creole called Chavacano. I don't hear them calling themselves "Hispanic". You know, if Filipinos did speak Spanish as a native language, and if Spanish remained the official language of the Philippines, then yes I guess. Filipinos would probably be considered Asian-Hispanic or Austronesian-Hispanic or Malayo-Hispanic or whatver. Point is, Spanish is not a majority language in the Philippines. Therefore, Filipinos are not Hispanics. It's a discgrace when you look at the surrounding people, the Thais, Malays, Vietnamese, Javanese - they are all same lineage as Filipinos, they look Filipino. They don't go around claiming to be some European ethnicity that they aren't! I don't see Malaysians calling themselves British! I don't see Indonesians calling themselves Dutch....yet Bahasa Indonesia contains lots of Dutch loanwords.

    FILIPINOS ARE WANNABE MALAYS

What's a little funny is that those SAME people trying to call themselves Hispanic are those same ones trying to call themselves Malays and Pacific Islanders and associating themselves with all sorts of ethnicities and nationalities they don't belong to. If Filipinos were Malays, how come they have English, Spanish, Tagalog and Cebuano names? Filipinos just think that they are Malays. ......rEALLY? Last I checked, Malays are Muslims, and they speak Malay (in any form) as a native language and adhere to Malay customs. Filipinos follow NEITHER any of those. Filipino speak their own indigenous dialects and the Tagalog language, a language that is NOT a form of Malay. Most Filipinos are Catholics too. Malays are Muslims, there's no such thing as a Malay Christian. The term "Malay Christian" nauseates me...such an oxymoron. Guess who uses that term? Filipino sources, schools and education systems. Makes me sick. True, Filipinos share same phsyical traits as ethnic Malays because Filipinos and Malays are related. But doesn't mean Filipinos ARE ethnic Malays. Filipinos are NOT descandants of Malay migrants from Malaysia/Indonesia either! Filipinos are descendants of migrants from Taiwan, China and Madagascar. This lineage continued from the Philippines into Borneo and Sumatra. Also, once more. The Tausug people are Muslims and they speak langauge called Bahasa Sug. it's closely related to Malay with that its called "bahasa" in the beginning. And Tausug people don't even consider themselves Malay. How sad. In fact, none of the Moro Muslims consider themselves Malay. Ethnic Malays neither make a majority OR minority population in the Philippines. You know why? Two reasons. ONE, there are NO Malays in the Philippines. Two, FILIPINOS ARE NOT ETHNIC MALAYS.

    FILIPINOS ARE HYPOCRITES

Filipinos are probably some of the biggest hypocrites on earth. As I already mentioned, the wannabe-Hispanic Filipinos are those 80% of Filipinos who either don't know a word of Spanish or who speak Spanish as an L2. It is these same Filipinos who are complete racists against Mexicans and Latinos and the Muslims from Mindanao. Last I checked, the Muslims in Mindanao are the ones who speak Philippine Spanish Creole (Chavacano) as a native language! They're proud to call themselves Filipinos or Moros! Also, once more Filipinos also call themselves ethnic Malays just because they look like Malays and they think that they are descendants of Malay migrants from Malaysia (this theory was already proven false). Yeah...ummm...look at Indonesia. About 99% of their population speaks Malay (as Indonesian) but Malays only make up 10% of Indonesia's population. Hmmm....I wonder why? Why aren't 98% of Indonesians called "Malays"? Is it because it's not called "Malay" in Indonesia? Or it is because...98% of Indonesians speak Indonesian as an L2 language? Indonesia, like the Philippines contains hundreds of indigenous ethnicities who speak ther own dialects. The Javanese people make up most of Indonesia's population. Except, Indonesians aren't hypocrites like Filipinos. Not EVEN the Muslims from the southern Philippines are ethnic Malays. Even they don't consider themselves Malays, yet we have the 80% populations of idiots claiming that they Hispanics, or

    "Malay Christian" (once again...neauseating oxymoron).

Filipinos seriously need to stop associating themselves amongst ethnicites that they don't belong to. Dear all Malays: If a Filipinos ever comes across you and says that they are Malays, SLAP THEM IN THE FACE.

True, some Filipinos do have Spanish blood. The only reason I can say that I'm 10% Spanish is because...I HAVE THE GENETIC PROOF (my Uncle is doing a research on my family).

Filipinos are Filipinos. Not Malays, Hispanics or Pacific Islanders!

Here's a quote from a Tongan (Pacific Islander) person I came across on the internet. "My grandfather doesn't know what Filipinos are."

    That's music to my ears.

I barely disagree with some points said by jmdortega

Filipino mestizos in Spanish times does not mean that you are half or mix Spanish blooded Filipino. I have read this subject and Mestizo is given name for those Filipinos who married Chinese. Look at Chinese mix with Filipino and you will see that children are fairer not tan.Filipinos are fairer when not expose to sun all the time. Don't you see it on children while growing up? We are fair when were still small and becomes tan as we are expose to the sun.

About the languages. Tagalog is far from Spanish and that's really true, but don't you know that there are many local languages in the Philippines. In Zambales, people speak chabakano, not sure but listen to their words carefully, then you'll realized it's different from Tagalog.

Furthermore, when you are born with a father and a mother with a complex genes, let's say mixes of blood. There is a tendency that only one tenth or one child of the parent will only get one trait from their great grand father. You may look like your mom, then your brother don't look like you and your other sis look like your grandfather or uncle or auntie. Only part of the physical appearance from your grandparents or nothing at all you can get when you're mixed up. Have you seen couples who are both good looking and their son or daughter does not look like them? The children look different or not so good looking. My mom said he's dad is mestizo so I have a Chinese blood not Spanish blood. My dad also have a fair dad and both their moms are tan. And why is it that I don't look like my mom? Isn't it because of genes and environment as well? As we grow old, we does not look cute anymore, we are more acute than cute. I wonder why I'm not fair as my mom. The reason is because my dad is tan.

When you live in one place, you'll always be called as that and it can't change even if you're mixed up. People with little Filipino blood I know does not want to be called as that, he says, he is Filipino cause he was born here.

Yeah, Chavacano is a Spanish-creole. It's also called Philippine Spanish Creole because its unique only to the Philippines. It's spoken by people who aren't idiots claiming to be Hispanics. Same with the Tausugs, they speak Bahasa Sug, a language related to Malay. But they don't consider themselves Malay.

those Filipinos you're judging, are only speaking for themselves. you can't possibly think that an entire culture wishes they were American, Hispanic, or European. that's just silly. you have the right to your opinion but I don't think you have the right to give advice and tell a culture to "get over it and start loving" themselves. just because you wikipedia or apparently researched customs, backgrounds and percentages doesn't mean much.
