I Am Trying to Be More Green
I Am Trying, But, I Am About To Probably Say Something Not So Pc Of Me!

We do all sorts of things around us in an effort to be more green. We recycle anything and everything that can be recycled. In fact, our county has started charging for recycle pick-up and a lot of people just decided it wasn't worth it to pay, but I just couldn't bear the thought of trashing all of that recyclable material!
My daughter's school encourages recycling through recycle drop-off days and the kids get extra credit in science for the pounds of cans and newspapers they bring in!
Did you know that you can earn money for your school or organization by collecting Capri Sun pouches to recycle? We are doing that also... If you think your school or organization would be interested in doing this, here is the link: http://brands.kraftfoods.com/caprisun/be-green-earn-green.aspx
There are other things we are doing at home also, like keeping out thermostat on a cooler temperature in the winter and watching our water consumption on our lawn.
BUT.... here is non-PC complaint - THESE FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS that soon will be all that are available to use - they are UGLY, AND, I hate how they have to heat up to get to their full strength - I always feel like I am squinting to see at first. Do you know how I counteract the fact that I don't like to wait for them to heat up so I can see? I turn them on EARLIER than I would usually and I LEAVE them on instead of turning them off with the idea that I won't have to wait when I come back to that room! That is very energy efficient of me, is it?
The other thing that bothers me is that we are being FORCED to used these bulbs. I don't know the ins and outs of the law but I have been told by my husband and Dad that eventually, these bulbs will be the only kind available, that we won't be able to buy regular light bulbs of any kind. I just think forcing this on us is another way that the government is getting TOO in to my business. I want the freedom to choose some things in my life. I understand energy efficiency, but I am just not in favor of legislating this kind of thing!
Finally, what are the bulbs going to look like in my chandelier in my dining room - those round squiggly things atop??? UGH!! I hate already how they stick out of the bottom of my light fixtures in my bathroom - at least when you use them in a lamp, they are concealed by the shade!! I would like the freedom to choose where I want to use those types of bulbs. I would be willing to compromise - using them in all shaded fixtures, outdoor lighting, where ever they can be concealed, but I would like the freedom to buy the other kind for my exposed light fixtures.
Well, I have to go to my local hardware store, I am beginning to horde the old bulbs before they are extinct!!! : )
