I've always been vaguely conscious of the need to be more environmentally minded. Since moving into our current place next to an industrial area, I have become almost obsessed. It started with the inhalation of industrial fumes for nearly a year and a decrease in our respiratory health. My son and I have started eating organic foods in an effort to counteract the effects of the factories. We then became more aware that the organic food should be locally grown to reduce transport emissions.
I started looking at the 'green' shopping bags made out of plastic. I now use cotton. I've become more aware of the enormous amount plastic we use. Most of the food we get is wrapped in plastic. I am trying very hard to reduce this. It is a whole new way of thinking right down to what do you put food in to freeze it if you are not using plastic.
I've moved on to organic and more natural clothing sources.
It overwhelms me do the massive lifestyle changes that need to be made. So much of our life is made from plastic...OK those things aren't generally short term disposable, but what happens to the things that break..straight into a landfill for ever.
I guess all I can do is keep trying and trying not to think of the big picture and just focus on the little things I can change...I don't know what do you think?
