do the part that I can. I recycle everything possible. (Although anyone living in Sarasota will know that recyclables marked with a '1' aren't accepted...) I buy 99% organic food... I don't drive, I take the bus or car pool. I also have a 50 CC scooter for the absolute necessity trips and I'm working on buying an electric scooter instead of the gas one. I don't use grocery bags and I rinse out my tin foil and zip-lock bags and reuse them. I take cold showers and I buy the majority of my clothing at Goodwill. People say the sacrifices I am willing to make reduce the 'quality of my life'.
I say right back to them, "Your 'quality of life' reduces the sacrifices you are willing to make."

  | Posted Nov 10th, 2007 at 12:49AM I feel terrible about waste and mindless consumerism, so the things that I do to curb waste and cut down on my own consumption bring me a sense of relief. On the other hand, every time I put a Capri Sun in my son's lunch, I shudder. I'd really rather not, but he's in kindergarten and he begs for this kind of thing. I don't want him to be perceived as the weird kid with the tofu casseroles. Anyway, ainje, you are doing a great job. That's so cool how little you drive. I drive, and it makes me sick.   |
