Finally Time

I had a baby in August and I think it's finally time for me to lose the weight. I've started logging my calories by using My Fitness Pal and I went to work out with my friend at the Y. My problem is that I have bad joints, 24 and I have a knee that I should be getting surgery on. My doctor told me that I need a full knee replacement because of the damage from being a cheerleader, and other things. But they don't do that surgery until you're 50+, so I'm kinda outta luck until then. Well I went to work out with my friend and ran/walked 1.41 miles on the treadmill. I knew I shouldn't have run, but I did. I got off and my knee was throbbing, but at least I didn't fall off like my friend. I did trip on the way home and sprain my ankle. But I'm getting off topic. I'm actually hoping that I could get some advice on some good exercises or classes, etc that I could do that would be easier on my knee. And I know that I should swim, I'm looking for more ideas than that. Thank you guys so much. Oh and if anyone uses My Fitness Pal and wants a friend on there, let me know.
