I Still Hate Wearing Shorts!

My skin is so fair that when I travel to tropical places, locals ask me to pose with them for pictures.  A favorite shot seems to be one dark-skinned male on each side of me... I'm the cream in the middle, or so I'm told.  I know that many of these people find my skin beautiful, but I always feel humiliated and want to cover myself up.  I guess it reminds me of when I was in elementary, middle and high school--there was always a boy or two that would make a big deal about my pale legs during gym class.  What is so funny about fair skin?

I'm Black and I'm "light-skinned" and have been teased because I am "light, bright, and damn near White", "yellow", and "can pass the brown paper bag test", which apparently during slavery determined which Blacks were house slaves and which were field slaves. That's what the girls who were teasing me said.<br />

I pray to get a tan in the summer because I remember all of the harsh comments I received in grade school. I can understand.
