Today'S Children Don'T Have Manners! Hold The Door Open, Please!!!

I don't know what has happened to the children of today. Many days of the week I try to teach kids how to hold doors open for other people, say "Please," and "Thank you," and develop gratitude.
I remind the kids to hold the doors open for the person behind them-me- because it is polite. But many times I have to call the middle school age kids back and have them open the door. Other times I rush forward and pin their bodies against the door to emphasize where their bodies should go when they are holding the door open for me.
I do this because when the kids do open the door they often block the door with their bodies so that I can't get in, barely hold the door open enough for me to get through, or hold it and then let go so the door hits me.
Holding the door open is such a basic manner, but it is extremely difficult to get kids to do this on their own.
Many times I will wait outside the door if the are improperly holding the door open. It takes anywhere between five seconds to ten seconds for the kid and sometimes kids to realize that they are holding the door open improperly.
WHY IS THIS SUCH A BIG DEAL?
Because my job as a basic skills worker means that one of my jobs is to teach manners, but since they don't learn this basic skill at home, and other basic manners are not implemented either, it makes my job tough.
Respecting one another is important which is what I am trying to teach children. Holding the door open shouldn't be a tough job.
