Ki's Blood-Chapter 8Chapter 8: Curse Of The Necklace
There was a small box in the center of her porch.
"What do you think it is?" Cara asked him quietly.
"There's only one way to find out," Rion said, bending down to pick the box up.
They went to the kitchen after he locked the front door. When they sit at the table, Rion opens the box. Inside is a note. He picked up the note, and Cara gasped.
As Rion read the note, Cara lifted the exquisite piece of jewelry out of the box. She examined it, and found it to be beautiful. It was a long, silver necklace with sapphires and emeralds.
"What did the note say, Rion?" Cara asked, staring at the necklace.
"It said, 'Your family loves you.' "
"Did it have a signature?"
"No. Cara, be careful," Rion said suddenly, because she had started to put the necklace on.
"I will," she promised, slipping it around her neck.
Then, without warning, Cara began to scream. Rion watched in horror as scratches started appearing on her arms and legs. Since she was a vampire, she was healing instantly, but it was clear she was still in pain. More scratches appeared.
"Rion, take the necklace off of me!" Cara shouted.
He tried, with desperation, to remove it, but it wouldn't come off.
"Use your teeth!" She cried out.
Rion bit the necklace and it fell to the floor. He looked quickly to Cara, taking her hand and squeezing it gently.
"Are you all right, baby?" He asked her quietly, but urgently, needing to know that she was okay.
"Yes," she gasped.
All of her cuts which had been tormenting her only moments ago were now all healed, no trace of them on her body at all.
"I'm so sorry, Cara. I said you wouldn't be hurt with me here," Rion said helplessly.
Her screams were still fresh in his mind, and he could tell she was still thinking about it, so he aimed to distract her, and himself, too.
"Cara, would your parents like it if we visited?" Rion asked her slowly, wrapping his arms around her when she came to stand beside him.
"They are human," she said quietly. "I don't want to put them in danger, and I don't want them to know I'm a vampire, either."
"You'll be fine," he encouraged, trying to help her be brave. "You won't hurt them. They won't even know what we are. I'll teach you how to blend in."
"Thanks, Rion," she whispered.
"You're very welcome, Cara, my love," he murmured as he kissed her gently on the lips.
