I Appreciate the Kindness of Strangers
Lately I've haven't even viewing the glass as half empty. I've been viewing it as going all the way down! Today though someone a complete stranger got my half empty glass shooting all the way up. I was on my daily commute home from school : train ->bus-> two more trains and then a 12 block walk home. So once I got on my last train home I was so exhausted and needed a seat, but there were no seats the train was crowded as hell! A few minutes after I got in the train a really nice guy (I recognized him from school) gave up his seat for me. (Being in NY people never give their seats up). There were about a hundred other men in that train but only one was a gentleman. Anyways after giving up his seat for me he followed with a chain of kind gestures. After that he noticed the distressed look on my face and started asking about me. Normally I would reply with a "I'm fine" or "don't worry about it" but I ended up pouring my heart out to him. By then the train was starting to empty and it wasn't as crowded. He listened to all the bs I spoon fed him didn't interrupt once just listened to me. That meant a lot to me this guy who was basically stranger to me actually sat there and listened to me. Something my friends would never do for me. Whenever I asked they would always brush it off and flee but he stayed and listened. After hearing my "life story" he didn't give me the classic "Sorry to hear that" instead he started drawing funny cartoons to cheer me up. He succeeded too :) We ended up getting off on the same stop and he bought me those big heart shaped chocolates. Then called me as sweet as the serotonin in the chocolates (corny and nerdy but kind). Some other stuff happened but I want to keep this story short. Point of the story is he showed me the hospitality, kindness, and compassion everyone else in my life failed to show me reccently. Besides it was nice not spending Valentines Day alone.
He sure is a charmer. Too bad he isn't into women ;(
