"If you love me, won't you let me know"

Never have I ever heard the words, "I love you," come out of my father's mouth in my entire life. His voice was trembling, almost choked up. Was it in fear of embarrassment or in fear of my life that I had just try to take over a year ago. Either way, it was a bittersweet moment that I will never forget. He has not once repeated those words since I have been back home. Maybe he doesn't love me. Maybe he does. What is there to be afraid of? If I ever have a child, I would only want them to feel nothing but acceptance, understanding and love coming from me. Because I would never never never want them to feel the way I have felt throughout my adolescent and adult life. Tell your children you love them no matter how old they are because they may not be there forever. I love you, Dad.
