Maybe you could try to find a role model for you, because I'm in depression and I found mine, I want to be just like her : lively and bubbly. I'm trying hard, fighting is hard but I guess I have to reach an end. Cheer up!!!
sweetlikesuga, I feel for what you're going through. This feeling will end - if you believe it will - and by identifying that you're ready to start your journey to recovery, I think you know in yourself that there's a light at the end of this tunnel.
If you are able to identify that light at the end - an end to your depression (even if it feels miles and miles away) - than you're already off to a great start. Try to focus on that light and imagine what might be there. What might the world look like to you without the heavy weight of your depression? What might you look like to the world?
Try to look at 'Happiness' as a by-product of something else and not as a 'thing' or 'state' you can obtain or become. What I mean is, instead of the thought process of: 'I want to be happier', perhaps what you really would like to do is find the ability to: 'do the things that make me happy'?
What truly makes you happy or has brought you joy in the past? Maybe it's time with family or a friend who you can laugh with; or playing sport, or cuddling up in front of your favourite movie? Maybe it's as simple as a sunset...
If you can find your ability to DO the things that make you happy, you will start to become happier. :)
I have found that finding a passion, something that inspires you to make a difference in this world can snap you right out of a depressive state. After all, people like to feel like their lives have meaning and that they are needed in this world :)
What gave me that sort of meaning was veganism and animal rights. It's like it woke me up and awakened my inner empathy. In a world that is becoming more and more apathetic, a resurgence of empathy, connection, and being aware of social issues (and then doing something about them!)would help create a world we'd all like to live in.
Anyway, this speech inspires a lot of people to make a difference in this world, I suggest you check it out.
