My 15 Year Battle

I have been battling depression since I was 15 years old. After many years of ups and downs I finally recieved a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder four years ago. After I lost my grandmother, I hit an all time low and was hospitalized with thoughts of suicide.

I suffered from depression since i was 15 i am 40 odd now, luckily here anti depressants are cheap or free,i dont use them though,i felt like a zombie when i was on them.

Prescription drugs are expensive not to mention time with the therapist. I think that’s why most don’t seek help.

You both have my sympathies. I have a definite strain of depression running throughout my family. Unfortunately, because it's not as visible as a physical illness and because it still carries a stigma, it doesn't get the attention or $$$ that is necessary. It would be nice is there was a war on mental illness in the same way that Nixon declared war on cancer many years ago.

I know how you feel. I have been living with depression for the last 12 years.
It happened after I lost my grandfather who I loved dearly and lived with me and my young daughter at the time, and six months after that my mom's cancer came back full foce. She died 5 months later.
To me it started with panic attacks not knowing what they were and out of despair attempted suicide and then fell into this long depression I still am.
You are not alone if that helps any.
