I've Never Had Diabetes, B...

I've never had diabetes, but my dad has. He's been on the tablets 16 years and has only just gone onto insulin. He's thinks it's all down here from now. He's so negative. He also keeps telling me I might get diabetes. It worries me.

I have news for you: it IS all downhill once a diabetic crosses the insulin line. Your father is truthful. To pretend a positive attitude will cure him is naive. Once I was made to use insulin it has been a downward spiral of increased fat, high sugars, more insulin, more fat, more high sugar and more insulin. I now take 2 kinds of insulin which is the body's fat storing hormone. Steroids build muscle, insulin builds fat.
You might get diabetes, you might not. You can do more now before you become diabetic than later when it's too late, like exercise and eat better.

Don't get down on yourself. I helped my dad beat his diabetes -- but he was willing to change his eating habits.
If your dad won't listen to you, then you have to make the changes yourself to prevent yourself from becoming diabetic -- maybe your dad will listen when he sees your changes. If he's too negative, you have to be careful not to be pulled into that "world of negativity".
Here's my dad talking about me and his experience with diabetes:
Take care.

cynthia: each 10 minute video contained no useful information (except that brussel sprouts are good) and wasted 1/2 hour of my time to hear 3 times he'd once been in a coma. He refers to foods making people diabetic but never names them, and makes a claim there are "superfoods" [where have I heard that before?] but doesn't name them either or claim they led to his ability to cease insulin or even that he in fact did stop insulin. Sure his sugar dropped when he stopped eating pretzels and potato chips...do you think no one has ever "discovered" that?
