A Noble Spirit

A personal story in the experience: I Believe In a Code of Honor
N obility is the quality of elevation of mind and exaltation of character or ideals or conduct. It means having ethical behavior and freedom from anything petty, mean or dubious in conduct and character.

Today, there seems to be a general lack of nobility, a lack of common courtesy and politeness. There seems to be a prevelance and general acceptance of low character, and low ideals. Even to the point where persons of high character are thought to be naive. Persons of high character at thought to have an unaffected simplicity of nature or absence of artificiality, to be unsophisticated or ingenuous. It is as if persons who have a high character are suffering from a lack of experience, as if you have to be stupid to be noble.

But it is not ignorance or lack of experience that lends itself to a noble spirit, rather it is the purest form of wisdom. One does not act noble because they are trying to gain some sort of advantage or gain, but rather because it is how they are.

Even a person of the lowest character is capable of an act of extreme bravery and courage under fire in stressful situations. But true heroism, true courage is not as a result of the situation but rather the result of character. They always act with bravery and courage no matter what the situation. A person of high character chooses noble behavior, simply because it is consistent with how they are and who they are, rather than because it is the smart thing to do.

I believe from my experience that the these ideals are lost on the majority of people. Many people will follow the path of least resistance, going with the herd, conforming to what is popular and what is prevelant. It is the few that will choose instead to embrace a nobility of spirit.
