I´m Going Vegan!!!!!

AND i´m so excited!! it´s been along time coming too. and i recommend everyone try it, at least once!!

a bit ago i watched a video from a raw-vegan athlete who gave advice on diet transitioning in general. the most poingant part was his recognizing moments of failure NOT as personal failure, rather as part of the process, something that is OK and happens to everyone.

this advice helped me greatly in my transition from vegetarianism to veganism. i have had the desire to change for some time, but gee-zo is the cheese tasty here in Spain - flippin´hard to deny!! so basically it was an internal struggle between my desires and my ideals, but in the end my appetite for non-oppressive living won out.

i had this vision today as i was walking down the street looking for a pinxto (tapa in the Basque country). i started thinking about dairy products, really thinking about the process it takes to extract them, and how as a vegetarian i considerd it OK because the animal wasn´t necessarily harmed...

however, as i´ve been reading alot of anti-oppression literature lately, i started to think of the heirarchies we haphazardly apply to ourselves and the society we´ve crafted out of the world around us.

i asked myself, WHY do we humans consider ourselves above animals, as so much that we can extract elements from their bodies for our PLEASURE? i tried to imagine a homologous situation within humans, something that could be extracted from us if say, we happened to not have accorded ourselves as the dominant species. the simplest comparison for me was the milk of women´s breasts. what if that was deemed something for mass-consumption, and harvested? could we imagine lines and lines of adult women in a factory setting, pumps attached to their breasts, sucking out what their glands produced? could we complain to our overseeérs if we did not speak the same language?

does this seem atrocious? absurd?? unethical???

i think so.

so i walked onto the naturalist shop and bought myself some vegan-friendly vitamins and soy-yogurt for my morning fare. i arrived home for lunch and turned the plate of cheese away.

i am vegan!!! here me roar!!!

I thought the same thing about 6 months ago when I went through a really difficult phase being pregnant and feeling like I must be missing out on something nutritionally because I was going without dairy. Gosh, I was so wrong then, and I'm so grateful for all the information I took in and following my heart to keep doing what I was doing being vegan after that....

so CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!! :)
If you ever feel discouraged, there's always a way 1)nutritionally and 2) ethically to understand what to do when being vegan. oh and there's always a way 3) with TASTE! COOKING! I have never loved food and its creation thereof :p more. Maybe it's because I know I'm not killing something or taking from it in other ways to eat?
Have a great day and never give up! We're onto something here ;) Humans of the future will wonder why they all didn't do it sooner :p I hope

cant handle that stuff. i havent eaten fast food in maybe 7 or 8 years. also part of my general anti-corporate stance. ;)

thank you! everyday will be an effort but it will be worth it in the end!
