The Gift of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a gift we give to others as well as ourselves.

We all have our reasons for doing the wrongs we have done to others.  Likewise we have beliefs or perceptions of wrongs done to us and why.  We cannot see into the heart and mind of those we are at odds with.  Their reasoning for their part can be just as valid as our own.

If we do not forgive someone for something then we are likely to retaliate in kind and the cycle continues.  Someone has to stand up and be forgiving of the other and put an end to the madness of retribution.

An eye for an eye?  But, do two wrongs make a right?  I think not.

Forgiving others and putting things behind us can be a very freeing experience.  You may not wish to continue a relationship with a person who has wronged you, but forgiving them and moving on is important.  Letting go of the past and the resentments we carry due to lack of forgiveness, frees our hearts and minds to deal with the present and to look to the future.

So if there is someone out there that you have not made peace with... maybe it's been so long that you don't even know what happened... try forgiving and letting go.  It is amazing what a difference it can make.

I like how you said forgiveness is a gift to ourselves. I find it can be a huge burden when we don't

Thank Fiery, that IS a compliment because I love the way you say things!<br />

Liz, I couldn't agree more. AND, thank you because I totally neglected the portion of forgiving ourselves (I think I did anyway) which we have to do first.
