Definition of Hope

According to Father Guissanni, leader of the Catholic movement Communion and Liberation, hope is a certainty of the future based on your knowledge in the present. It is not a wish, or something that doesn't have a chance of coming true. For example, "I hope the Vikings win the Superbowl next year" is NOT hope. That is wishing for something that will probably NEVER happen (sorry Vikings fans, but it's the truth.) Hope is the knowledge of something exceptional that will more than likely happen. If you hear someone say "I hope that this will happen" et cetera, they probably don't know the real meaning of hope. It is a feeling, something you know to be true that you don't dare to say out loud for fear that you will jinx it.
