I Believe In the Power of a Hug and a Smile
I once heard a sermon whilst attending a youth conference. This guy is on stage talking about how he was in this pristine, white suit and saw a young lady walking down the street and felt compelled to hug her. He is very adamant about that suit, how clean it was and how dirty she was (and how clean he is spiritually and her filthy, etc…). But, the Lord compelled him to and it was amazing – he was filled with God’s love and rewarded with a deep sense of self-importance (though I’m pretty sure he used different words) for having lowered himself to hold this poor, undeserving woman.
When someone genuinely cares for you, and takes you in their arms, naturally, because you need them to – even if you can’t ask… that is when it can touch your heart and soul. Forgive me for being cynical – I wrote the first bit to illustrate how strongly I feel about the importance of sincerity. That story is not meant to argue against the power of being embrace but, rather, for it.
