I Have a Risen Savior

Jesus Said, “ I am the Resurrection.”       While serving as a Chaplain at the V.A. Hospital I was asked by the nurses to visit a man who was dying.  The elderly man's eyes darted back and forth in fear as he tried to speak.  He knew he was dying.
I held his hand and said,  “Jesus said, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in ME will live even though he dies. And whoever lives and believes in me will never die.'  Jesus made a way for you to be resurrected as He was.  Jesus to the thief on the cross,  today you will be with me in paradise.   If you believe and accept him you too can be with Him in Paradise.  Do you want to pray?”
The dying man squeezed my hand as he nodded for me to pray with him.  A divine peace filled the room. He left his old broken body and went to be with Jesus in heaven that day.
There are many religions people follow, but the Christian faith is the only one that has a God that is not dead.  Siddhārtha Gautama founded Buddhism.  He is seen by Buddhists as the Supreme Buddha. He lived between 563 BC and 483 BC.  The Supreme Buddha is dead.  He was never resurrected.  The Islamic faith exults Muhammad.  He died on Monday, June 8, 632 AD, in Medina. He is buried where he died which was in his wife Aisha’s house and is now housed within the Mosque of the Prophet in Medina.  Muhammad was never resurrected.  In India they have all kinds of gods.  They even made Hitler a Avatar which is another word for a  god.  They believed he came back to punish the British for enslaving them in the previous century.
As Christians we serve a risen Savior who was crucified because He claimed to be God.  Many today say he was a great teacher which is true, but He was God in the flesh who came to save us from our sins so that we can live forever in heaven with God.  That is the simple truth.  He took our sins upon His own body so we can have the righteousness of God within us.  We live in such a fallen, sinful world that we have no idea what holiness or righteousness is.  Being holy doesn't mean you don't smoke, drink, dance or do anything that looks unholy to someone else.  Holiness begins by loving God and loving others.  That is what Jesus did.  He associated with the sinners and loved them right into heaven.  The first chapter of John describes who Jesus is.  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.   Everything was made through Him.   It says that God was made flesh and dwelt among men.  Imagine the God of all heaven and earth leaving the magnificent glory of heaven to show you and I His great love.  Some of you may think  heaven is on earth, but I have had enough trials and seen enough suffering to know that this is not heaven.  Jesus was a man of sorrow, acquainted with the bitterest of grief.   That didn't make Him God because most people suffer.   What shows us that Jesus is God even though He was born in a dirty stable and walked the earth as a humble man is the RESURRECTION.   Jesus appeared to many with a new body that was no longer subject to the laws of nature as our bodies are.  He could appear in a locked room, yet He wasn't a spirit because He ate fish with the disciples.  Just look at all the people He appeared to after he was crucified.
He appeared to Mary Magdalene after she came to an empty tomb in Mark 16:9-11 and John 20:11-18.  He appeared to Peter in Jerusalem in Luke 24:34.    Then He appeared to the ten disciples behind closed doors in Mark 16:14, Luke 24:36-43, John 20:19-25.  He appeared to all the disciples with doubting Thomas in John 20:26-31.  When the seven disciples were fishing He told them where to put their nets and they brought in 153 large fish.  He cooked and ate the fish with His disciples in John 21:1-14.  In Matthew 28:16-20 He appeared to eleven disciples saying,  "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Through Adam's sin we all must die.  Through Christ's Righteousness we will all live. Jesus broke the curse buying our souls back from the devil.  So as the old man was dying in the hospital scared and without hope because he was still under the curse of Adam, he now lives because he has accepted Christ as his savior.  The choice you make right now whether to believe or not is between you and HIM.  Eternity is a long time.  You have nothing to lose by believing in Jesus and heaven to gain.
