Through a Hole In the Roof ...........

Light against dark ...... the eternal struggle ..........the power of light  for me can best be explained in the words of my mother.....

Summer 1941 London the blitz ......... My father was stationed some were in Oxford at the time just after they married... Mother travelled down from Glasgow to see him,  both were in the RAF ..... she was staying with relatives in the east end the night of the full moon ,cloud is what they wanted heavy cloud cover ........ by the bright moonlight they came , the drone of the engines growing as they neared their intended targets , the bombs fell , she said she covered her ears that night huddling in the shelter . But the noise of the exploding bombs all around held her in suspended terror ..... When ....just when would it be her . Silence  she said .... beautiful ,peaceful silence she could here the silence ..... the shelter had been damaged  by falling debris , a hole appeared in the roof threw which the moon shown  . As the second wave came over she just sat holding hands with a child and they stared   at the dust particles dancing like angels and fairies in   the beam of moonlight ....... as the bombs fell again.

For Peggie ......
