Compassionate Loving At Its Best

Although I am not Buddhist, I love the following quote from The Buddha, “Compassion is that which makes the heart of the good move at the pain of others. It crushes and destroys the pain of others”

I read the following profound words recently in one of the books I am studying, “Water must be wet. A fire must be hot. You can’t take the wet out of water and still have water. You can’t take the heat out of fire and still have fire.” This caused me to think, “These things are true, so how can one love without compassion.” One can have compassion without love, but can one have love without deep compassion for the ones that we love? So are you a compassionate person? Do you share this compassion with the persons you love the most or are you missing out on deeper love because you are taking your loved ones for granted? Just something to think about today. Maybe I just think too much.

crazymanj, a "serial killer" is killing out of self hate. No compassion there...DD

I don't think one can have compassion without love. I think compassion IS a form of love.

What if you lave being a serial killer. Are you killing out of compassion?

Dew, the student meant well with his actions. He loved the butterfly to death one might say.
Angell, ty for your comments.

A young student Buddhist was watching a Butter Fly emerge from the silk cocoon that had encased his former self, the worm. The newly emerging Butter Fly was struggling hard to break free of its past!
The compassionate student gently pushed aside the incumbent silk. The beautiful Better Fly was free.
Never to fly, but to starve as his muscles were too weak for him be all that he could have been. LMAO…DD

The words you have written are more than worthy of consideration. I am a very compassionate person. I just think life without love and compassion is not worth it. I have had my fair share of pain and hurt in life but what has kept me going are the few compassionate words or deeds from others. Even if its compassion from just one person, its had a profound effect on me. Thats why no matter how bad things get I will never become bitter. For me compassion is the centre of who I am. Thank you for the wise words.
