Conspiracy Theories

I'm having a Star Trek Voyager day.  The following piece was inspired by that episode.

Without Love, Life is Nothing

One of my great loves is Star Trek Voyager, which I find very inspiring. I watched one of my favourites today called The Voyager Conspiracy.

In this episode, Seven of Nine (the Borg drone) has downloaded a lot of information into her system. Seven is trying so hard to make sense of the information that she ends up concocting different conspiracy theories that almost turn Captain Janeway against her second in command, Chakotay.

There's a poignant scene at the end when Seven of Nine is feeling really paranoid and Captain Janeway is trying to convince her that her conspiracy theories are not true and she's simply suffering from information overload. Janeway finally gets through to Seven by reminding how far she's come in her personal development and how loved she is by the crew.

Right now we're constantly being bombarded with tons of information. I believe in order to be able to discern fact from fiction, you need to know who you are. Otherwise, you are like Seven of Nine trying to make sense out of nonsense.

I believe, at the end of the day, it's not how much knowledge you have accumulated but how much you love and how much love you experience.

Without love, life is nothing.
