I Literally Cannot Believe Someone Started This Group

but I'm so glad someone did.  Thanks allisonoaks.  I think that it is a horrible injustice, what is happening in Palestine...I don't like talking in too much detail about this because it will be very easy to hurt people on both ends of the argument, and this forum is meant to be supportive to its' members; but suffice it to say that the irony of this situation abounds and it's amazing to me that the parties involved have not taken notice of it. 
The irresponsibility and partisanship of the 1st world in this matter is infuriating and astounding, and I hope and pray for some equity soon. 
As they say, if you want peace, work for justice.

The land that the Israelis took was not 100% theres. The land was divided by the UN and then Israel decided what wasnt given to them by the UN was just theirs to take and they DID kick the palestinians out of there homes. When you stop listening to what the bible says and stop believing that just because the bible says they have a right to that land and there "Gods chosen people" and start seeing whats happening to the palestinian people calling them all terrorist and if they were to be given there own state it would be a terror state you would see it should not be seen as a religious issue it should be see as a human rights issue. But Israel will never be prosecuted for their war crimes because Palestine is not recognized as a real state according to the UN. You cannot group a large base of people together just because others wish to cause terror and do acts of terrorism. Everyone speaks of anti semetism but nobody speaks when Jews are racist towards arabs. Nobody is innocent so stop acting like you have rights to the land.

The best argument I heard for that region being Palestine and not Israel is that the Palestines were evicted, kicked out, by the Jews and not taken over. But the thing is; the country's contract rights were given to the Jews not the Palestines. Even if the Arabs were kicked out, which they weren't, Israel still has 100% rights to that land. All that would mean is that Israel is immoral. But really, Palestinians left on their own 2 feet. Nobody was kicked out. They Jews were always there. Before Arabs came and during that. Then they migrated. Only that Arabs complained about it like neighbors who didn't like new settlers. But really, they could do nothing about it. They don't own the land. They never did. Just because they have been there a long time doesn't mean they own it.

It would be wonderful if the Arabs surrounding Israel could live in peace with Israel, but their ideology will never allow it. Iran is the head of the snake. Israel is not having trouble with the small Arab countries that flank it, Israel is being threatened and tormented by Iran who uses the people of these countries to further their cause.

Palestine existed before modern day Israel. This is basic history.
Recap: That area was controlled by the Ottoman empire. Britain promised arabs (who populated that region) their independence if they worked with Britain against the Ottoman empire. The arabs agreed to this arrangement. Meanwhile, Britain had no intention to stick to it's side of the deal. They promised the land to European jews in the famous Balfour promise:
"His Majesty's government view with favour the establishment in ******Palestine****** of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object..."

Balfour's promise was in 1917. See that? What did they use to refer to that region? **Palestine**.
When was modern Israel established? 1948....

There WAS palestine in existence, even before Israel existed.

I became aware of this issue when I was reading "Gender in Crisis.." I recommend it for anyone who supports Palestine.

It's eay to overcomplicate things, but the bottom line is: there is one land and two peoples who claim it. Either they agree to live in peace or not. To paint the Palestinians as victims is naive at best. A two-state solution has been proposed and rejected by Yasser Arafat (now, there was a real man of peace! lol) and then by Hamas (which openly calls for the destruction of Israel).

If and when the Palestinians realize that Israel exists and is here to stay, only then will there will be peace.

It's interesting, US is very much pro-Israeli in the main and it must feel like rebellion even to voice your opinion if you object to the mainstream. It doesn't feel quite like that in Australia, so I'm not so shocked that this group exists. In Melbourne where I live there are a vocal minority of ex-pats from Arab nations & palestine who try to bring attention to Israel's acts, so it doesn't seem so one sided.

I saw a documentary not so long ago where a Palestinian activist and university professor was put through absolute hell when he was prosecuted using some of the incredibly broad anti-terror crimes that Bush brought in. It was really mindblowing how the system was able to punish him and his family for years on the scantest of evidence - it really pushed home how partisan mainstream US is on this issue.

I have sympathy for the plight of the Palestinian people, but my god, Hamas is a terrorist organization that hates Israel more than it loves its own people. Why else would they lob rockets - an average of almost 10 a day - at Israel AFTER Israel completely left Gaza?

There was NO OCCUPATION in Gaza for more than a year and still, rockets were flying toward Isreali civilians daily.

I have no doubt that many Palestinians want peace and would be willing to live peacefully, side by side, with Israel. But when you have Hamas, which calls for the destruction of Israel in its charter, as the government, there is no hope for peace. Sad but true.

i dont profess to understand israels invasion but the massacre of innocent people and the destruction of the Palestinian homeland i do understand to be wrong

hamas is no match for the might of israel and its US backing...
israel is a tough nuclear nation with the might of the largest military power the world has ever seen...how can palestine be a threat to that
israel is bombing and invading a territory the size of a city with a population of 1.5 million, with primitive weapons
gaza has 700 dead and thousands injured...their homes bombed and ruined ....they have no food or power,
what has israel suffered...maybe a few casualties...they are no different to hitler or bushes invasion of iran, iraq

i pray for a safe and happy life for all arabs, jews, muslims, hamas, hezbollah, fatah, al-quaeda, shi'tes etc

i cry when i see the torment and suffering of the people...and the war-torn cities that were once so timeless and grand.....
why are they destroying themselves...i see all sides killing each other....
they are all of one people...a beautiful and ancient race...so lucky to be fixed in tradition and family...
cultures so rich and diverse....
i see the children with eyes that should be shining and bright, but they're saddened and dim.....with fear, horror and despair...
why are they not allowed to live happy and free...

wasn't that what Mohamad fought for ...so that all the tribes' cultures and beliefs would be acknowledged and practiced without fear of reprisal

i read an article by Sarah Dowes, she is a jewish author, she has written 'Sapphires' about 3 generations of jewish women
the article was about the poison of Israels ethnic territorial nationlism of the palestinian homeland ( she describes 'homeland' as a mulit-cultural society)

hamas is not a terroist organisation..but a democratically elected government of the palestinian authority....and should not be undermined as Israel and the west is doing
she continues to say that the rationale that hamas has refused to accept israeli occupation or that it has incited the violence, is yet another example of the truth being twisted to justify the slaughter and destruction of gazas infastructure
what hamas rejects is the continued barbaric and aggressive military occupation
her article is very explanatory of the issues ....of course it is one womans opinion and may not be the right one ...but i tend to agree with her ....as the rest of the world has in condemning the israel slaughter of innocent people

We could usefully start by freezing arms shipments to Israel until they learn they don't have carte blanche from the international community to commit war crimes,and send those responsible for the premeditated mass murder of police officers (to give one grotesque example) to stand trial in the Hague.

A just settlement calls for just treatment from the rest of the world - above all from the US government,who should listen to their partners more,and AIPAC a good deal less...

Israel is still sending humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine. Hamas must be stopped.

Today we all witnessed a horrific attack.Like you I am infuriated and disappointed to see the level of partisanship in this matter and I join you in your prayer for some equity soon. The world has suffered enough. It needs solutions , no more carnage and endless horror.

Any criticism in the US of the Israeli government is typically mischaracterized as anti-semitic, so it feels "dangerous" to even join a group like this. In Israel you can criticize policy and speak on behalf of the rights of Palestinians, but not here in the US. All Palestinians are seen as terrorists or unfortunate "collateral damage." I wish it were possible to have a robust discussion of the topic.

You've all captured my feelings quite well, just b/c I am against Israel, doesn't mean I am an anti-Semite.



I know that creating this topic was a shock, but I didn't create it to be negative, I just want more ppl to know of the injustice that is happening towards the Palestinians....

I agree on both the idea as well as the shock that this group exists. There is such a spin from the pro-Israel side that says if you are against the Israeli occupation you are an anti-Semite, of course this is nonsense but they have done such a great job with this that most people are terrified to speak out for fear of being lumped into that category.
