My Garden Has Given Me My Peace Of Mind.

I've always had the ability to do pretty well at most things I tried. My parents were convinced I would be an artist or have a great career. Instead I just lost myself. I spent a lot of years traveling and living without a direction.

When my husband and I bought the house we live in here in California the yard was all weeds. I had just had my second child and was experiencing some health issues. I decided to try some tomatoes for kicks.

I divided the yard into sections and started adding manure. A neighbor gave me plants and seeds from her garden. As I worked in the soil with my children beside me something amazing happened. I felt at peace. I was happy. My mind stopped circling in the same tired old anxious patterns that had made me miserable for years.

I now spend most of my time outdoors. I love the feel of the sun on my skin and the wind in my hair. I love gardening in the rain. I love checking my plants to see who's gotten bigger and who's blooming. I love to cut things back. Most of all, I love planting and composting - it's so sweet at the start of things, and composting makes me feel like the plants will be happy.

In nature I feel truly alive and beautiful. How can you be a part of something so wonderful and not be wonderful yourself? I wish I could share this feeling with everyone!
