6 Or 8?

[41:9] Say, "You disbelieve in the One who created the earth in two days, and you set up idols to rank with Him, though He is Lord of the universe." [41:10] He placed on it stabilizers (mountains), made it productive, and He calculated its provisions in four days, to satisfy the needs of all its inhabitants. [41:11] Then He turned to the sky, when it was still gas, and said to it, and to the earth, "Come into existence, willingly or unwillingly." They said, "We come willingly." [41:12] Thus, He completed the seven universes in two days, and set up the laws for every universe. And we adorned the lowest universe with lamps, and placed guards around it. Such is the design of the Almighty, the Omniscient.

It might be understood after reading these 4 verses that the days of creation of Heavens and Earth was [8] not [6] as it's known.

Yet, if we contemplate once again we'll note that verse no. 11 starts with [Thumma – Then] and the word [dukhaanun – gas] is also mentioned there - in the same verse - and verse no. 12 starts with [fa qaDaahun-na – completed].

So, that leads us to conclude that when Allah completed the creation of Earth. He [Then - Thumma] turned to the sky which was [already] [dukhaanun – gas] to only [complete] it within the last 2 days.

In other words if we suppose that a house was built in 6 months and furnishing it took 2 months, the period of furnishing is not interconnected with the period of building.

Note: the way the verse is written is how it's pronounced when it's read only.

Now :-)

Other proofs that confirm that the days are not our idea of days as Fascade said are:

1. At that time the Earth isn't created yet.

2. Verses of the days of the creation of Heavens and Earth are not ended with the Quranic description: مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ ; mim-maa ta'Ud-duun ; of that ye reckon, as it's mentioned in other verses that carry the meaning of days of the earth.

A. Your only Lord is GOD; the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then assumed all authority. He controls all matters. There is no intercessor, except in accordance with His will. Such is GOD your Lord. You shall worship Him. Would you not take heed? [10:3]

B. He is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days - and His (earthly) domain was completely covered with water - in order to test you, to distinguish those among you who work righteousness. Yet, when you say, "You will be resurrected after death," those who disbelieve would say, "This is clearly witchcraft" [11:7]

C. He is the One who created the heavens and the earth, and everything between them, in six days, then assumed all authority. The Most Gracious; ask about Him those who are well founded in knowledge [25:59]

D. GOD is the One who created the heavens and the earth, and everything between them in six days, then assumed all authority. You have none beside Him as Lord, nor do you have an intercessor. Would you not take heed? [32:4]

E. We have created the heavens and the earth, and everything between them in six days, and no fatigue touched us [50:38]

F. He is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then assumed all authority. He knows everything that enters into the earth, and everything that comes out of it, and everything that comes down from the sky, and everything that climbs into it. He is with you wherever you may be. GOD is Seer of everything you do [57:4]

G. They challenge you to bring retribution, and GOD never fails to fulfill His prophecy. A day of your Lord is like a thousand of your years [22:47] … And they will bid thee hasten on the Doom, and Allah faileth not His promise, but lo! a Day with Allah is as a thousand years of what ye reckon [22:47]

H. All matters are controlled by Him from the heaven to the earth. To Him, the day is equivalent to one thousand of your years [32:5] … He directeth the ordinance from the heaven unto the earth; then it ascendeth unto Him in a Day, whereof the measure is a thousand years of that ye reckon [32:5]

3. The duration of days varies greatly from planet to another. The day for the Earth as it's known is the period that the Earth rotates on its axis in 24 hours [in front of the Sun] while the day for the other planets of the Solar System is different from the day of the Earth. For instance Venus: approximately 243 Earth days equal one day on Venus.
Today's post is only to [clarify] the days of the creation of Heavens and earth as it's happened that people thought that Quran said the days of creation are 8 not 6.

Have a nice day!

Many believe that 'days' in the bible are not our idea of days. I tend to believe that, which makes more sense if you do believe that God is the father of science. Also, as we date the earth as around 4.5 billion years old, days do tend to need to be much longer to make things fit.
