Boy Scouts Of America Morally Straight? Questionable!

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA MORALLY STRAIGHT? QUESTIONABLE!

Once again the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America is faced with making a moral decision in the face of scandals involving ********* volunteers, quietly protected by the B.S.A., (none of which to my knowledge being gay or transgendered) concerning gay and transgendered volunteers in their organization

In the Scout oath, it stated that a Scout is morally “Straight”. Is that “straight” as in not gay? Or is it “straight” as in honesty and truthfulness?

This past Wednesday the Boy Scouts of America side stepped making any decision on allowing gays and Transgendered volunteers from participating in their organization, yet the BSA has a history of being less than “morally straight” in how it has quietly protected pedophiles and accepted contributions from wealthy gay businessmen such as for example, Jeffrey Lazarus of the old Federated Department Stores, who the Scouts forbid to be on Scout property especially camps without an official escort. “Morally straight”?

The real question that now has the BSA so troubled is in their opinion, should the organization continue to bar gays and transgendered volunteers and continue to walk away from millions of dollars in much needed funding, or should they vote in favor of changing their “morally straight” position in such a manner that will allow them to be once again well-funded by corporate America and the Nation’s United Way charities?  

In other words; will cash needs trump “morally straight”? We will find out in May.

Several years ago I sent my Eagle Scout badge and card back to the National headquarters because I was outraged at how they consistently awarded Scouting’s top volunteer awards, not to incredible and hardworking scout leaders who got their hands dirty in the trenches with the boys, but instead to their wealthy contributors (at least in our district here). I grew tired of their weak policies towards assisting urban Appalachian Scouting programs while no amount of money was too much for African American troops in this area, because the “Appalachian” troops contained a majority of poor white boys. Splitting the assistance between both troops was simply out of the question due to the political climate in this city at the time. “Morally Straight”?

The BSA of America regardless of its ultimate decision is dying due to several factors and shifts in the recreational activities of today’s youth. Securing adult volunteers has become increasingly difficult as many adults are fed up with being looked upon as potential pedophiles, or being accused of molesting a boy seeking attention or financial rewards.

Scouting today is like living in a police state, one of constant fear where no adult dares to be alone with a boy or dares not council a boy without being a licensed professional. The Boy Scouts has become a lawsuit about to happen!

In all honest, I can’t come up with a good reason that anyone, straight, gay, or transgendered would want to volunteer with the Boy Scouts. Hey! Go volunteer at a local community center or a food bank.
