I was seduced by one of my Scoutmasters ...in his Nimrod (Ha!) trailer in the '60's...in my sleeping bag...he was sleeping beside me on one side of the trailer...there was two others sleeping on the other side of the trailer. I was +/- 13-14. It was priveldge to sleep in his trailer. It was big stuff...! He jacked me off and then stuck his thumb or finger in my ***. It felt pretty good. I didnt move...played asleep. I will never forget. Nel

I was an enthusiastic scout at 11, but by 13 had soured on scouting. I have been told (I don't remember this and question whether it happened) that it started when I showed up for a camping trip and was left behind because they didn't have room and my father -- who was never very supportive of me -- wasn't helping out the troop.

The reason, whatever it was, doesn't really matter; I simply no longer cared about scouting. Nevertheless I supported my sons who were enthusiastic about scouting (I have three sons who are Eagle scouts) and I supported my sons who, like me, didn't particularly care about it..

My own opinion is that scouting should be available to gays -- I think making it a troop option is probably the best they can do given strong presence of the Catholic and Mormon churches in scouting, with their negative stand on homosexuality.

    But gay hatred, never.

Billy, I was a cub and boy scout leader for 6 years. I'm sure some parents questioned a single male as a leader. If I had not been a foster parent ( with all the background checks) I may not have been able to do it.

That suspicion became and remains very common in all programs that work with children, including Foster Parents. I tend to blame the media for serious overkill as in all reality, on the grand scheme of child abuse, volunteer youth program volunteers fall way below family and relatives.

Yes volunteers and the clergy, Foster parents etc. have abused children but verses the total numbers of children the offenders are almost uncountable. Kinda like a million catholic school boys and 100 of them molested by a priest 1m/100! I still believe that more catholic children, especially little boys, were abused by the nuns than by the priests. HUM!

It really isn't as much a fight as a statement about moral hypocrisy and in fact, teaching children to "hate". There is a picture floating around the internet showing a group of 11 year old boy scouts, one of them holding a poster that says, "No queers in the Boy Scouts!". Some adult allowed that poster in public, and that is encouraging "hate"! Again, "Morally straight"?
