See this article for some good information on the direction of our country:

"It’s not About Political Parties. It’s About Liberty"

Yeah, the biggest problem is it has become a game, it's no longer about beliefs, and there I complately understand your frustration.

I understand what you are saying, it comes down to no two people think alike! I still think this party stuff has gone far enough, and is dividing our country, not uniting. I am not liberal, you are right, I am conservative in the original sense. Thanks for your post, excellent discourse.

Parties are a natural result of like minded individuals coming together to accomplish a particular agenda. Parties or no parties, we would still have partisanship.

I understand the idea of wanting to have our representatives "speak for the people" but people will always say that they are not "speaking for the people" because the minority will always be upset. Unless of course you have a very libertarian view on the role of government. I don't really get the sense that you are a Libertarian though. (I realize this wasn't your direct point, as you were talking about certain groups of people not being allowed to vote, but the number of those individuals who are not able to vote, is relatively small.)

Dedicated to all children, the future of the planet.

And wasn't I shocked when a B'ann Coulter ad for Human Events came on this page immediately after I posted it. She (IT) is the loudest, most grating voice to support division in America, ever! go ogle sucks too.
