3 Speed On The Column

The first stick I learned on was a 1950 Chevy coupe with 3 speed on the column.  Now that was fun.  I have driven plenty of "4 on the floor".  My favorite was my 1980 Toyota Supra, I could do 95 in 3rd gear and it was a 5 speed.  When my wife and I got together back in '84 she wanted to learn how to drive my Supra.  We lived in Southern California at the time.  We started at night in remote areas where she could learn the gears, but she had to get used to driving it in traffic.  We were sitting in a left hand turn lane with a dedicated signal, so if you missed it you had to wait for the whole rotation.  The light turned green and she stalled it.  By the time she started the car again the light was red.  Them some traffic came up behind her.  When the light turned green she stalled it, and the cars honked behind us.  It was either the 3rd or 4th try when she finally made the turn.  It was the 2nd most embarrassing moment in her life
