Symphonic Power Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Goth Metal...anyone?

Look, I've always been a rocker at heart; but life has a way of intervening. Instead of tracing the long spiralling path that ends in domestic entombment (marriage, children, law school, career, scads of domesticated friends) suffice it to say that I woke up this past January and decided to claw my way back to the land of the living.

One of the things I decided to do, was to resume getting out into the concert scene.

There's nothing wrong with the Orchestra, I just don't want to hear it at the moment. A well-produced Opera could still be fun, but what really turns me on is power metal.

Lacuna Coil is at the top of my playlist, but they aren't touring the States this season. Kamelot is coming to town in September (Leave's Eyes will open for them) and I bought two tickets, months ago, sure that I could find a buddy before the event.

Seems not!

I've emailed video links or handed ear buds to every pal in my circle---only to be quickly ( but gently) declined. I've asked friends to ask friends. I've posted on My Space, Facebook, and Craig's List, for ****'s sake. All to no avail.

Okay, Craig's List did yield two responses. One fortysomething who had no opinion of the music in question, but suggested we attend free (read dreadful cover bands) summer concerts, instead (no thank you), and one inarticulate person from a considerable distance in the wrong direction, who evidently needed a ride (though this was never clarified before they went silent).

September is fast approaching; so what do you think? Shall I sell the tickets and stay home? Or is there a good way to find an appropriate concert buddy?

And then there's Scar Symmetry / Epica in November...

Age is nothing :) The most important is you enjoy what you like! I recommend one of my fav melodic death metal songs-- The River Flows Frozen by Eternal Tears of Sorrow, an amazing Finnish rock band...Oh, and Thousandfold, a very good song from a swiss folk rock band---Eluveitie. Hope you enjoy them. btw, I think you guys are really cool! You rock and rule :)

tell me about it its so hard for me to find people who are into 80's thrash/death metal
I seem to end up doing a lot of things I "really like," alone. Makes me a bit sad. But I suppose if there is any way to make new friends with similar interests, it's by going. I can probably find someone there who needs the extra ticket, too. Just don't want to look like an older woman on the prowl, lol.
