we have the same kind of thing, but it's not exactly equal and not always recognized for some things. it's like a pacifier marriage... enough to placate without giving us what we really want. And of course I'm still here ;) I swear I'll never leave this site, I can't help myself, I've met too many great people here

I always feel sorry for Gay American as I know a lot of their life their restricted to what they can do. E.g Not get married in some states. It's the same in Scotland we can't get married but we can enter into a civil partnership which has all the same benefits of marriage except it has a different name. I just hope the American Government gets off its high horse and do something about it soon.

P.S Nice to know you're still here :)

THOR!!! I missed you! how are you doing? I always wondered where you went :) I totally agree, I think the majority of the hatred for gays comes from Religion.. even if it's not coming from a religious person they were still raised with those puritanical roots.. look at Ancient Greece in the times before Christ and the Bible... they were all over the place! There were a few things I don't agree with that happened back then but then again... I was raised Christian too, so that most likely describes why... I guess there are definitely some good things that came from the religious views of what's acceptable but hatred based on sexuality is not one of them

AC I have thought so many times of seeing what it's like in the UK I've met a lot of great people on this site from there. And it's very true that there are some places here where it's great... oddly enough, in the State where I am it's great in some towns and in others it's pretty much punishable by law... it's weird but it's the West Coast...

ThorGodOfThunder here my old friend, good to see you're still going :D. just dropped in under a new account to see what's happening and saw this..

I know this might be going on about what you said up top, but to be honest .. most of it is based on religion. if you think about it, the bible says this and that about gays (and I'm not saying all christians hate gays, because I know some who are absolutely fine with it and think they should be able to marry) so if it wasn't written, if religion didnt exist, it's arguably possible that we wouldn't be in this position today?

I think that governments are well aware of these situations, but are maybe scared of "letting go" or trying to dismiss religion, to save them from the masses that are religious. and fair enough, be religious and worship any god you like, but do it within reason and don't be a zealot to ruin everyone else's happiness. (sorry if that was a bit long winded, and I'm not being a hater just stating my point) :)
