Give me lots of time, a keyboard and a monitor to hide behind and I do alright... (although frequently descend into verbose, dense and frequently incomprehensible ramblings)

In the real world, a better approximation would be:

......................................................... (silence)

I'm pretty good about starting on topic, then I get nervous and forget what I was talking about.

me too except I cant express myself well in the virtual world either.
oh and my "oaewgkwaolgioewt"s tend to be a bit more "kfhjreaohiglwagjaegwolaejgoiawgwa"-ish...
you know us teenagers...we gotta have everything fancy! ;)

I have to agree with "SomeGirl82" ... in person there's an element that creates pressure and once you've said it, you've said it and there's no taking it back.
In person I often find myself misunderstood because I tend to speak quickly, often times skipping around on topics - not always without thought but almost as if there's no emotion in it, as if it's insincere. For me this has to do with the neurological disruptions of my condition and having to thoroughly think out my words. It seems by the time I say them they come across rather monotone because I've thought about it so much - almost like reciting it in my head until it loses meaning. Even though the meaning is there for me, it's not for the listener. Needless to say I've become MUCH more introverted and quiet (yeah QUIET - you read that correctly) in the past few years.

I'm not sure the exact dynamic a monitor and keyboard provide but it's much more relaxing and free flowing - perhaps too much so at times. Maybe it's the lack of physical connection. Maybe it's the thought you can re-'format' with delete or backspace prior to 'send'. Maybe it has to do with being able to say, "that's not how I meant it" knowing full well if you cite the misunderstanding due to lack of intonation, etc. the defense will be accepted. I just don't know.
All my life I've preferred to write letters rather than attempt a conversation. I wonder why it is ...

I find non-verbal communications to be best. Charades is a great invention.
