Lone Ranger

Sometimes that's exactly what it feels like I'm doing. I try to be so eco-friendly, yet every day I see people just not giving a s_h_i_t. I'm not asking everyone to completely change their lives around overnight. You have to work toward being more green, one little step at a time. I just wish more people realized or cared about the effects humans have on our planet.

When it comes to this issue, I think the old cliches are true: you're either part of the problem or part of the solution. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

So not only do I not litter; I take a shopping bag with me on my walks and pick up stuff from the side of the road. When I get back home I sort out the trash from the recyclables and place each in its appropriate container.

And I blog about it:
simply adding your fresh face to the effort helped my day, thanks

^ I totally agree!

Alana, I empathize about being the Lone Ranger. While corporations trash her daily, we clean her up. Their packaging and the overindulgence of our society is what causes loose garbage. It's I who made this group - I can't do it by myself either.

Right on rhood, please just put it in your pocket til you get a place to put it. Or get one of those little round pocket ashtrays, and dump it when you reach a receptacle. Cigarette butts on the ground make smokers look like inhuman creeps, I am a smoker, and I NEVER throw it on the ground! I pick up garbage everywhere I go, (see my story 'Trash Talk' at EP Link) -lots of it. Who throws it down? Who knows? It's not that there are too many people. The world is not overpopulated, just uneducated and selfish.

You are so correct! Thanks for the comment. I agree 100%.

Alana, I TOTALLY agree. I try hard to do the right thing and it drives me crazy when say, my boss who is almost 70 comes in the office and always badmouths our recycling program. He then walks a computer hard drive, keyboard and old printer to the dumpster when the electronics recycling program is coming to our building in a week for pick up! Or the group outside my office building who smoke and throw their cigarette butts all over the grass and garden! It looks gross now.
I think some of it is generational and older people were not raised to care about the earth. I go over to my parents and every light in the entire house is on and a TV is blaring in a bedroom no one is in. They don't see how that effects out earth...Entire gorgeous forests in West Va. have been cleared for coal so they can have all that wasted energy! My father will run the dishwasher with three plates in it! My rant is finished....thanks for letting me vent :-)
