It's never too late to learn something new, and learning to swim will open up more activities for you. Rafting, kayaking, surfing, snorkeling etc. Go do it!

it's easy and fun, and yes i do think you missed out on a little

I learnt to swim at the age of 20. since then I have enjoyed swimming and participating in water sports.which previously I avoided. Regular swimming is a good form of exercise.
I have twice accidently fallen into deep water (fully clothed) so my swimming ability potentially saved my life.
You are never to old to learn so "go for it" and learn and you will surprise yourself what you have missed..
Learning is a matter of conquering fear, previous bad experiences or fallacies told by others.
