Sounds like the two of you have a good relationship. This is very important in a coteaching situation. I know what you mean about the kids losing notes and such.

I think we do, today was a challenge as it was one of those days fraught with issues. We keep each other's moods in check :)

I had a teacher in 7th grade. She was in her mid 30's, nice as can be. Shewas a veteran teacher who cared about her students. Problem was, we the students didn't care. She tried to get to know us, but we resisted. She tried to guide us before her tests, but very few listened. About 6 weeks into the term, she was having emotional problems of some sort. She wouldcome to class, you could tell she had been crying. You would think the students wouldcare, be extra nice. Nope. They were like sharks in a feeding frenzy.

soon almost every one was talking and not paying attention, flying paper air planes, etc.

They literally carried the poor woman out in a straight jacket, we drove her insane.

I still feel bad about this to this day. We never saw her again.

I had one woman who came into sub, after 2 hours she looked at me and said, "How do you do this everyday?!" She never came back...

I don't think its downfall, maybe most people see caring and being genuine as naive, but the truth is world need more genuine warmth affection, and we all need both gentleness and bluntness, especially when teaching kids in such a young age, its also good to build up their character :)

Thank you CP, I agree with you. Kids need affection and kindness, many don't recieve any at home. It can have a huge impact on them.

I think it is so great that you take the extra time to make a difference in these children's lives. Without you, some might "fail." Unfortunately many parents do not take enough responsbility, and changing this may never happen, so kids NEED people like you. You make this world a better place for our next generation. You should be so proud. REALLY. I am sure you just naturally have this in you (sometimes I feel this way about things I do) but the truth is, so many do not. Thank you for being YOU.

    YOU are awesome!!

:) Thank you, that is a huge compliment. It becomes quite evident observing staff members, that some have the ability to work with teens AND understand them...others not so much. I feel blessed each and every day :)

Well that is a teacher that I would have like to have had. My notes were always just taken and put in the pile in my locker, I must have had 10 million copies of notes in that locker.

wow, nice cute story ... It is true that the balance is between tenderness and gruff method. I had the opportunity to teach at the beginning of my career for two years, I enjoyed it a lot, my students and I got along well. But we must find a balance between the gentle and persuasive manner and with an iron fist in a velvet glove .. But these little guys (18 years on average) are still the little monsters. I left teaching to industry, and now, as lab manager, I have to do with my technicians like I did with my students .... But we get along very well !

By the way I love the words "his bark is worse than his bite" ... lol

Nice post, thanks to share :)
