Wishing I Could Do More To Help

When me and my mom went out and a homeless person walked up to ask for change, my mom would give a dollar or two. And I would give $5 or any amount I could find. I would ask her "Why don't you give them more?" and she said that we can't just give everything away to homeless people and that we need money too. That was true, but they needed it more and after all, we lived in a rather large house and I highly doubt we had financial problems.

It's always been a dream of mine to invite a homeless person to my home and help them get back on their feet. My life would officially be complete since I practically live off of others' happiness. But I wouldn't know how to go about it because I don't want them to think I'm a rapist or anything. lol

I currently am homeless and I can tell you from experience, the best way to help the homeless is to offer a hand up and not a hand out.

The guys that hold a "sign" on a street corner are not asking for hand ups. They are asking you to give them money so that they can continue to do nothing and make money doing nothing.

A hand up is exactly what you are considering offering. A place to stay, a bed, a shower, and a warm cooked meal. Those are the things I think of most when I miss home.
