How Could Anyone Not?

I do love nature.  I love to hike, and to garden.  I'm a severe weather junkie.

As a scientist specializing in Planetary Science, I see that the changes we have made will take many lifetimes to reverse, and some are irreversible.

As a teacher, I try to do what I can to educate students about how our current lifestyle is unsustainable.

As a citizen, I try to do what I can.  I drive a car with very good gas mileage, I use compact fluorescents, I cut back on my air conditioning, I limit my water use.  I'm depressed that it's so hard for those of my generation to undo a lifetime of bad habits, and saddened that some of us are passing our consumer habits to our children, but I'm heartened that some of my students today are making bigger strides than most of us.

And I realize that the ultimate problem is overpopulation, and I shall have no children of my own.

Thanks everybody, and don't forget the power you have to help your planet and your communities

Mankind has made a very big difference to the way that we live our lives,and techology has made our lives a lot more easier that in past times,so why is it that the goverments are only just thinking about using natural non-poulting resourses that will never run out,such as the sun,the wind and the sea,they should have been doing this years ago!

Am doing my best...but feel that big biz and govmt will prevail...{kill us all}

I get so discouraged with my efforts to go green, when smokestacks keep belching...<br />

As s science teacher, it would not be appropriate for me to stray to things outside science in my classroom. I tell them what science can offer on the subject, and will give my political views outside the classroom if asked.

Do you tell them that it matters not a whit what kind of light bulbs we citizens use as long as the huge multinational corporations keep raping this planet and pillaging out last resources?
