My Name

When I was growing up, I hated my last name. Kids made fun of me and I couldn't wait to get married someday and change it. I grew up and married a very abusive man and when I divorced him ten years later I decided to legally change my last name. It was very exciting, knowing I could change it to anything I wanted. I had so much fun, researching old family names, names of friends, names I made up, it was great. Then my mother passed away and I felt like I'd lost my best friend. So I decided to take her maiden name as my last name, to honor her; and that's what I did. I love putting my signature on things and knowing I chose this name for myself!

That is lovely. I am thinking about returning to my maiden name but I'm not planning on divorcing, I just want to be me.

I really like the way you chose your last name. It is a great tribute you have paid to your Mum.
