Checking Before Adding

I almost always check out someone's profile, stories, experiences and recent activity before I add them to my circle. This is to get an idea of who the person is and whether we may have common interests and be interested in interaction. People with little or no activity are unlikely to be added, as I know so little of who they are - particularly if they appear to be adding names for the sake of it.
I feel I should know people in my circle and plan to gradually work on getting to know people or removing them from the circle if there's no interaction.

I totally agree! I always do that. No point adding someone if I can't see any common ground with them.

I check out potential friend's profiles too. In fairness, I have taken a couple that I would not normally take as friends due to their profiles, and yet we get on together very well. Some who's profiles may show a common interest with mine, I have no rapport or even much interaction, so in general common interests are a good starting point, although it does not guarantee a good rapport or interaction.
