New Pez Collector Needs Help

I am 44 years old and have enjoyed Pez candy for as long as I can remember.  While I played with the dispensers, I never kept them.

For Christmas, I received the Collector's Series Wizard of Oz Pez Dispenser set.  I like to collect all things Wizard of Oz, so I have not opened the box (which includes that delicious Pez candy).  Does eating the candy hurt the value of this as a collectible?  If so, won't the candy eventually get funky - thus hurting the value of the set?

Any advice would be appreciated.

The short answer is... yes. I am a comic book collector, so things are a bit different. PEZ falls into the arena of "toys and collectibles" that have original packaging, etc. If you are looking at this as a "value" collectible / investment, etc. Then you do not want to open ANYTHING. You would want to leave it shrinkwrapped and all. Now, this takes away the fun, etc. So sometimes the solution is to buy a second one for you to enjoy and then take the first one and put it on the shelf, so to speak, never to be touched.<br />

At the end of the day... you have to ask yourself if this is something you intend to sell or if this is something to make you happy. If the goal is money / selling, then keep it locked up tight in original packaging. If the goal is personal enjoyment... well then... eat the candy! ;)
