thats one of the loveliest comments i got to this story! I once survived a cat i think! It was like sick and hungry and sitting like miserable on the stairs of my flat for several days! I played with it and bought it some meat from the near butcher, then prayed that it gets well,, the next day it wasnt there! I hope it became well really!

They become a big part of your family especially if they meet you at the door wagging their tale everyday for 14 years. Then when when their gone its heartbreaking.. brought tears for days.

Cats are the best animals. Even if you are busy they can find things to do with themself. They love warm laps at night.

I dont know what are you into exactly, but ur sad face talks much about an unfair treatment you get! Wish you good luck!

I have had with me many animals in my long life, some of them human too. The none human variety surely leave us humans standing, and lacking in our nature, buoyed by the unconditional love shown by them.

I could not write on your whiteboard about you, but you say you are a “ portrait that didn’t find its colour yet”. I have read a few pieces of you and your friends work. You may feel you have no colour but, what comes from your mind and pen puts the rainbow in its place.

It is lovely to meet you and hopefully read more of your words.

oh thank you! This is very lovely said, glad to meet you too uncle Fred! See that sometimes animals are better than humans! Animals hurt to eat and survive! But humans hurt to for the sake of hurt itself! You wont expect ur dog to bite you, but your best human friend not only bites you sometimes they eats you even! I am newly bitten lol

Well Aycha, I love all animals (humans too), and getting bitten is a part of this relationship. If you want to talk please feel free I am uncfred at bt internet dot com and a none biter. I will listen and advise, perhaps talk about you or me, but whatever you choose to do I wish you well. I think you are still young, so, time to heal and time to try again with whoever you feel belongs with you. See, just like pets, we all need a little love and effection.

I have always had a dog. At the moment, we have a young dog Shadow. And we love him to bits! He is spoiled. We are a household of animal lovers. "cats, dogs, horses" you name an animal and i/we love them. The dogs we had before Shadow were, rescue dogs and were, the best. Shandy passed away 15 years ago. this week. He was 18 year old. And i still miss him terribly. My other dog. Whiskey passed a year or two ago. I wrote a contribution somewhere on here to him. He to was 16 17 year old when he died. Missing him like crazy. I also wrote a contribution on saving a little rabbits life, when i was about 14 or 15.

Great post and i thank you, for sharing! :D :D

I have one dog now,a wonderful pet and friend,a very active, friendly Border Collie.Earlier this year I had to say goodbye to my 17 year old dog Penny,it broke my heart, losing her was traumatic,a dreadful time.

If anyone should take on the responsibility of keeping a pet it must never be half hearted.,total commitment is required, they become a part of the family.I have had three Dogs now,my first at the age of 22 and the companionship and loyalty they offer is amazing.Within the next year I will seek out another Dog,most probably a puppy and give it a home full of warmth, love and affection.I adore my current Dog and am aware he deserves a canine companion.

Thank you for this post,it has brought back so many happy memories I possibly would not have had today. :-)

It is like having kids, but some ways easier and some harder. Ironically (like with my children) I have had the responsibility for the pet, thrust upon me really (blaming husband for all three. ;) I do my best, with care and love. But I do worry a lot.....

great story... having a pet is a responsibility... but if i may add that however we care for pets we are still mostly taking them from their natural ways of living... true, people mostly care for their pets but they are still removing most of these pets from their natural environment and ways of living... the natural environment, for example, of most dogs is not inside houses and bedrooms, their natural environment is on farms, with cattle, in and around gardens... etc... i would think that i would be better not to have a pet if one would have to take that pet from its natrual environment...

Actually because dogs have been domesticated to be pets and not wild animals we are not taking them from their natural environment. Yes cattle dogs and sheepherding dogs SHOULD be on a farm with a lot of land that does not mean you shouldnt keep one as a pet,. Siberian huskies, or any other kind of snow dog, are great pets and people all over the world have them as pets aNd a lot of them live in apartments.

You cant take a dog away from its "natural environment" if it wasn't in that environment to begin with. On of my huskies came from florida and the other one came from the midwest and their natural environment is ASIA, THEY ARE FROM SIBERIA. So obviously they were not born and raised in their natural environment. Im pretty sure they would have to go back at least 7 generations to find the siberian husky that came from Siberia. As for cattle dogs, you do realize that we bred certain traits into certain dogs so they could heard cattle and sheep right? They didn't come that way. And by your logic a bull dog should go be in the bull ring with a bull which would kill the dog because of the way we've bred it.

dogs are meant to be domestic, so taking a dog as a pet doesn bother it! Only if you mean that dogs are so loveable that one might replace intimacy towards humans by them! :)

Great story! My boyfriend and I have six pets between us. He has a dog and two cats, and I have a dog and two cats. They are "our" pets.

I would go hungry myself before letting the animals go hungry. How sad that would be!

I love them, and they have a "forever home" with us.

Benji, Daisy Mae, Bo, Misty, Salem and Pumpking

PS They require work and attention, but they are worth it! :)
