I Could Sit and Stare At the Ocean All Day
If you jumped off the mountain at Big Bear Lake, you would land where I was born at the foot of the Rim of the World Highway, in East Highland. This was a fertile Valley of Orange Groves, Avocados, Chicken Ranches, in a Bedroom Community in this peaceful valley.
Everything you could ever want to do was about a 45 minute drive. Tobogganing down the mountain trails in the winter. Palm Springs anytime, to mingle with the TV personalities. To Malibu to Party with the Stars. The Beach to Surf. The Desert to run our Sand Buggy's. Long Beach to ride The Pike, Roller Coaster. The Drag ***** in Cotton. I remember the quiet times also.... a pleasant Crab Bake on the Beach with a full moon with my friends.
I visited all those places over the years to see it change into more housing areas and concrete. Aloof my old friends have passed, except two. The family I had have all passed also. I still call it home, but there is no one or anything to. "Go Home To". I made my home in the Missouri Ozarks. Its a different kind of beauty, yet very peaceful in the wilderness area I live in by a beautiful Lake with forest all around.
The September years have come and I have slowed down the Fishing and Gardening pace. Camping in cool places during the summer and warmer places during the winter. When I return here from my trips, it somehow feels like home.
