Power Of A HugI'm a married guy, 54, who believes in the power of hugging. I think the close contact with another person helps us to realize we're not alone in the universe. This past weekend I spent some time with a woman who has become a very close friend of mine. She's in her early 60s. Her husband of 37 years left her more than a year ago for a woman who is 40 years younger than he is and confined to a wheelchair.
She's had some challenges with this situation, but she's doing extremely well with some excellent self-care habits. We talked a great deal during the hours we shared. A couple of times while sharing about her experience emotions would run deep. A couple of hugs helped her to know she is appreciated and someone cares. I told her that I didn't want to be presumptuous, but if she ever just needs a hug to let me know as I find hugging can be very grounding. She agreed.
That's the power of a hug. And we've all got that power to share.
