I LOVED this movie! I saw it maybe last year, and tried to hold back tears because I was watching it with my sister. I love how dogs are so loyal. We have one, only I wanted an Akita, just like Hachi. But I still love our dog no matter what.

Dogs are the perfect best friend. No offense meant to cat people, I love cats as well, they are sweet but mostly detatched. Dogs are always there for you, and wherever you go they want to go with you... When you leave them at home for any amount of time - even just to step outside and grab the paper, they are always there to greet you as if saying "thank you for coming back to spend more time with me!" Also, they love you no matter what, and pick up on your emotions... When you are sad or hurt, or whatever, they want to show you their love, and it's always with personality! If you don't feel well they are cautious and snuggle you, if you are happy they jump around and want to play with you... I love dogs very much, and this movie made me cry. I loved it enough to admit that I can and do cry for sad movies... Thank you very much for commenting and inspiring others to follow your comments on this story! I rated up your comment.

Gee, thanks. Nice to know people who love dogs as much as I do. And you just made the perfect description for dogs. :)

This is the first I have ever cried during a movie so much my throat hurt and I am 34-yr old man. I am glad the director did not play too much with the wait, because it was hard enough as it was.

Normally I can always assure myself that it's just a movie, but this was one is based on a true story. It made me also think of a stray dog that reminded me of Hachi (he was big and perfectly trained). We met him abroad in Portugal 5 years ago, and he was waiting for someone to take him home and even tried to come to our car. We could not take him (but we tried) as were only a week in the country and (according to officials that we contacted) it would have taken 3 weeks to have the laser tag and medicines. I still think of him and wish there would have been a way.

The movie also is a good reminder that the moments we have will not last forever and should be cherished.

Thank you for sharing this. It truly is a sad story, and in your case it kinda feels worse. Didn't mean to bring you down. Sometimes I get obsessed with what "might have happened" after I have gone and left matters in an undesirable condition. I am sure that dog found a home.

When I was just a kid, we found a dog at the ball park - little league - and since the owner of the park told me I could have hium, I called him "Boss". He was a good dog, well trained and very loyal. Some kid found your dog and took him home, I'm sure of it.

Hachi was so sweet, about a dog that waited for his master to return, even after he had died in the war. The dog didn't know, he just knew love, and I love dogs!!

Yeah, you have a point there, Jessie. =)

Greyfriar's Bobby is only sad in the middle, it's bittersweet towards the end. I haven't seen Hachi but thanks to all the spoilers, now I don't have to. =P

PH UK sad movies! I HATE them! "Pay It Forward", remember THAT one? I was SO pissed off about how that perfectly wonderful movie was RUINED by it's horribly sad ending. I HATE sad movies. Movies are NOT suppose to make you sad! They're suppose to uplift you in some way, not help you become more cynical towards life. . . .

Sad Dog Movie? No, I'd much rather spend my time watching a Funny Dog Movie.

Queen: Hi, and thank you for the comment. Sorry to hear about your dog. It's really sad, but it is a part of life. You would think that God would make it so that "man's best friend" would be able to live as long as we do... I've lost four dogs, so far. Bear - half Timber Wolf, half mutt. Boss - a German Shepherd. Critter - a Cocker Spaniel. and most recently (last Christmas) Oliver - a mixed mess that we adopted from the pound. Loved them all, and still do.

    Dain: You're just jealous!

Wow Spring, I never knew that. The movie about Hachi was the first I had ever heard. If I'm ever out that way, I'll make it a point to visit Greyfriar's Bobby. Did they make a movie from that one, too?

Sophie: Hi, thank you for the comment. It was a very sad movie, I don't think anyone can watch it without crying - well maybe some of those pirates could. But animals always touch my heart!
