Music and Funerals

Funerals always make me cry, not matter how well i knew the deceased person. I think this has to do with me being an atheist. I think people are gone forever when they die. Their brain just shuts down and they begin to rot. Thats why i cherish life and try to enjoy it as much as possible.

Certain songs make me cry too. When i was about 4 years old my sister kept singing this song to me about a baby cloud that peed water when it wasnt allowed to. The baby cloud got a real talking to by its parents and that always made me cry because i felt sorry for the cloud. There is another song called "Om lidt" about things that come to an end. It is written by Kim Larsen and i easily start to feel tears in my eyes when i hear it, its just so sad. We sang it at the final community singing when i finished primary school and i just collapsed in front of the entire school, it was so embarassing.

I'm with you, Wraither. I don't believe in any sort of higher order. I don't believe in punishments and rewards. On the matter of death, this makes me sad, because I believe you're right: there is no more. No more consciousness. No soul.<br />
<br />
I find it strange that some atheists seem to see that as a positive rather than a negative. To me, it is infinitely sad. If I could convince myself that there is a god, I probably would, just for the comfort it would offer. But the cost of doing so would be my integrity.<br />
<br />
Amaan: Salaam Alleikkum. I understand that your beliefs are strongly held and I respect that. However, one thing I need to say to you and a number of other religious people out there is this: to a non-believer, your texts simply have no authority. To an athiest, the Qu'ran, the Bible, and the Bhagavad Gita are books. They're beautiful books and they contain great wisdom - but they are books nonetheless and the words inside them hold no power to us.

And peace be on you. To the first things you said I say this: I don't believe life is just. The only authority that can make life just is the law and the court. I don't believe in any imnopotent omnipresent authority figure that punishes people or rewards them after death. The only thing i worship is the joy of being alive and treating people around me like i want them to treat me. I have no fear for punish in the afterlife when i say that I believe all religions are fictious, and i will keep believing that they are until i see some scientific proof, no offense. You should read my post about atheism and the comments there.

peace be on you brother..!! its really good to visit funeral because it reminds us of our death..<br />
but for you meaning is change.. like for you when you see funeral you feel to live more.. so that you could get enough happiness of your only life<br />
<br />
but for a religious person meaning of death is different<br />
<br />
for us.. death compels to struggle more and more to be succeeded in hereafter.<br />
<br />
lets suppose..<br />
<br />
you don't believe in hereafter (means life after death)..<br />
now suppose.. what ever you want in this life.. you don't get...<br />
<br />
in terms of having fun.. it could be DANCING, SWIMING PHOTOGRAPHY, SEX, BLAH BLAH.<br />
<br />
Lets say for you its dancing..<br />
but for someone else.. its sex..<br />
<br />
lets suppose.. if someone rapes your sister. ,, or suppose someone kills your daughter or your sister.. or any of your family person who is more and more beloved to you.. okay<br />
<br />
and lets assume the law of present world do not find any clue to arrest this guy and punish him.. in perspective of that criminal he z trying to enjoy the life.. coz he has no fear that he will be accountable..now tellme will he become more bold?or stop doing sins.??<br />
<br />
if wee cannot punish him in this world and he also die because of anyother disease..now make judgement .. is it balance proportion of good vs bad?<br />
sinner vs pious?<br />
<br />
now.. lets analize..<br />
<br />
if we believe in hereafter.. when we know that we will be accountable in hereafter for whatever the goods we do here and whatever the bad we do here....<br />
<br />
so their should be someone who can give us justice for the goods we do here and for the bads we do here.. ..<br />
<br />
if you do not agree.. than analize a situation where everyone will care of his interest.. and spend a granduer.. life.. without any hesitation of any sin .. or law..<br />
<br />
so we can;'t blame... and killer,,.. we can't blame any smuggler.. we can't blame any rapist.. coz according to their point of view they are doing whatever they feel is correct.. and they enjoy doing so..<br />
<br />
(don't quote the example of those religious people who are not practicing.. to know. the right practicing religious person read their scripture.. )being a Muslim I like to invite you to have a look on our Qur'an<br />

chapter 002v.048<br />
<br />
" And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all, nor will intercession be accepted from it, nor will compensation be taken from it, nor will they be aided." <br />
<br />
chp 002.v148<br />
<br />
For each [religious following] is a direction toward which it faces. So race to [all that is] good. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you forth [for judgement] all together. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent. <br />
<br />
chp003v.004<br />
<br />
Before, as guidance for the people. And He revealed the Qur'an. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the verses of Allah will have a severe punishment, and Allah is exalted in Might, the Owner of Retribution.<br />
<br />
chp005.v050<br />
<br />
Then is it the judgement of [the time of] ignorance they desire? But who is better than Allah in judgement for a people who are certain [in faith].<br />
<br />
<br />
chp006.v062<br />
<br />
Then they His servants are returned to Allah , their true Lord. Unquestionably, His is the judgement, and He is the swiftest of accountants.<br />
<br />
chp006 v.160<br />
<br />
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof [to his credit], and whoever comes with an evil deed will not be recompensed except the like thereof; and they will not be wronged.<br />
<br />
chp009 v.118<br />
<br />
And [He also forgave] the three who were left behind [and regretted their error] to the point that the earth closed in on them in spite of its vastness and their souls confined them and they were certain that there is no refuge from Allah except in Him. Then He turned to them so they could repent. Indeed, Allah is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.<br />
<br />
chp 010 v.020<br />
<br />
And they say, "Why is a sign not sent down to him from his Lord?" So say, "The unseen is only for Allah [to administer], so wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait."<br />
<br />
chp010v.109<br />
<br />
And follow what is revealed to you, [O MuŁ’ammad], and be patient until Allah will judge. And He is the best of judges.<br />
<br />
chp012 v.040<br />
<br />
You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. Legislation is not but for Allah . He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.<br />
<br />
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br />
<br />
chp002v.256<br />
<br />
There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower. <br />
<br />
chp002v.257<br />
<br />
Allah is the Wali (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. But as for those who disbelieve, their Auliya (supporters and helpers) are Taghut [false deities and false leaders, etc.], they bring them out from light into darkness. Those are the dwellers of the Fire, and they will abide therein forever. <br />

No, I'm serious, this was a HUGE business until about 50 years ago. Possibly more recently in some places, I think. Obviously all the customers were wealthy families, wanting to impress onlookers with just how important/popular their deceased relative was, by how many mourners they had. It was all for show. And obviously there were enough people who COULD deal with going to funerals to make it a viable business. I don't make this stuff up. Nobody needs to - the world we live in is plenty weird enough.

Are you out of your mind? No offense, but going to funerals is about the worst thing i know. Making a living of it, sheesh.

Back in the day there was such a thing as a professional mourner. People would pay for them to attend funerals, and sort of lead the open grieving. They performed a valuable service. Pity that job isn't offered these days, you'd be much in demand.

I am not a christian,but,I feel so sorry for you that you think their is nothing after death. Talk about lonely. I too cherish life because it is so damn short,but, I think their is SOMETHING out there. It would be my personal hell to think that their is nothing after you die. When you are dead you are still left here by the memories of those who loved you. Peace and love to you,J
